Doctor Who Disney+ Season 1 - Ep 8 - Empire of Death

The Doctor has lost, his ageless enemy reigns supreme, and a shadow is falling over creation. Nothing can stop the devastation - except, perhaps, one woman.

As spectacle and carnival ride, this was fun, but there is some stuff in here that doesn't hit for me. I agree with the many I've heard saying that Ruby's mother pointing dramatically to the street sign (with no one else around) is a bit ridiculous. What I haven't heard people talk about is that the person in the cloak leaving Ruby at the church door -- this is a 15 year old girl who just gave birth a few hours ago, a birth and a pregnancy that she has hidden from a cruel step father (how?) -- So what were the conditions under which this birth took place? This 15 year old was on her own to give birth? Where is she getting the wherewithal to do all this, much less point dramatically at a street sign while no-one is around to see her point dramatically at a street sign and to immediately understand that what she's doing is naming her baby? It would make more emotional sense to me if it was a friend of the mother who took the baby to the church. Bringing death to death -- I guess I'm willing to let that slide. My own head cannon on that: the Doctor is not bringing death to death; he's bringing dust to dust, ashes to ashes. When the Susans distribute Sutekh's dust of death all across the universe, is that just happening in 2024? or is that happening all across time (and space)? The Doctor was there is 2046 so the DNA records are 'preserved in death' -- but how did those DNA records get collected if everyone was dusted in 2024? Or do we get DNA records because the Doctor will have already (timey-wimey) dusted and defeated Sutekh? If the dust is happening across time, then the undusting happens across time... Oh, the conundrums inherent in a time travel show! It also really irked me that at the end Ruby refers to her "_real_ mom" and means not Carla but her birth mother.

You didn’t notice when the Doctor was holding the tv screen showing Sutekh footage from classic Dr Who it included a very young Sarah Jane.
