A BIG IMPORTANT UPDATE [PLEASE READ]
Added 2019-03-11 21:33:33 +0000 UTCHey guys!
I feel like a full-on post detailing the state of Deathbulge has been very long overdue. I apologise for general lack of communication, so here goes!
As you may very well have noticed, two things have happened. The weekly comics have suddenly stopped (save for the occasional comic out of nowhere) and a Deathbulge video game has been announced and is already beyond its funding goal on Kickstarter and we still have 9 days to go. And yes, those two things are connected.
Deathbulge was born because I had initially failed to get into games. After a while of trying I gave up and decided to do my own thing. I figured I'd be pretty good at doing a webcomic. So I did, and it went phenomenally well. My passion for games took a backseat for 6-7 years, but it never really died.
Eventually two online friends Kyle and Scott reached out to me about possibly making an RPG together. This was the dream project. But like I'm sure many of my fans might've been when hearing of the game, I was unsure if it would pan out, it's a HUGE PROJECT, do I have what it takes to make a whole game? What if my comic jokes translate horribly into a video game and it's SHIT?
This is why I tried to juggle developing the game whilst still posting weekly comics, in an attempt to keep everyone happy. This made it hard to properly focus, game development was incredibly slow. But as the game finally started coming together. I got more and more excited about it. More and more assured by what we were creating that this dream project was what I should be doing and that people would love it. As a result the comic posts began to dwindle as I was prioritising any time I had to working on THE DREAM PROJECT.
I do feel bad that I have turned my back somewhat on the comic crowd, but it was either that or turning my back on myself. I have always been a gamer at heart. If someone asked me what comics I read as a kid, I'd tell you Sonic the Comic and that's it, which says it all really.
Of course, this begs the question, WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR DEATHBULGE'S FUTURE/ PATREON?
Given the indefinite hiatus of the comics. Most of the Patreon rewards are objectively LESS VALUABLE now let's be real. I don't post new comics anymore so the $5 hi-res tier doesn't get you anything extra. And while the $20 tier gets you drawn as a fish. You should know that the fish is appearing on a website that no longer has comics being posted regularly, so the site traffic has plummeted as a result.
I feel like the only patron tier that's still getting action is the $3 tier, with the tier receiving game dev stuff in place of comic sketches. But once the Kickstarter is funded and the game's discord server opens up. That'll be like having two behind-the-scenes development blogs at once, so I'm not sure how that's gonna work out just yet, it's possible that the discord will render the $3 tier redundant. So if you're a patron AND a backer, KEEP THAT IN MIND.
If you want to cancel/adjust your pledge due to the shift in focus from comics to games or lack of reward tier incentive. I understand completely and thank you for your prior support, it has meant so much over the years.
I'm here for any questions you may have.
Thank you so damn much, all of you.
