Tier Revamp

I just took a peek at Michael Kupperman's page and I noticed that he has a single $5 tier but that everyone is welcome to give more if they want. Since my old tier structure is essentially dead at this point while I finish up Dungeon Divers Book One, that seemed appealing to me -- a simplified approach where all patrons get all the content and I don't have to feel bad about creating things (or failing to create) only for a handful of generous high-rollers. I can just create, and let you enjoy, and not worry about the balancing act of it, which has always given me a bit of anxiety.

This wouldn't require any changes on your part, you can still keep your monthly donation where it's at for as long as you'd like, but new patrons would see something more like Michael's page. I welcome your thoughts via comments and votes!

I specifically never support authors at the $60/year level. It's too much. And I have to pay extra for the book...

Regardless of the specific dollar amounts, I think it makes sense to have a somewhat more streamlined tier system. It looks like you already went ahead and made the adjustment, but if my memory serves, you have quite a few tiers before, which can very well end up just being more bookkeeping for you.

And maybe I misunderstand something - I am almost positive that I have had creators that had various tiers which didn't fit my goals, so I just said "$2/month" and everyone was happy. If that's no longer the case, or if it was never the case, then I guess I'd be a little less enthusiastic about only having $5. I have creators I like but that I don't LIKE like, if you see what I mean, so they get $2/month where others get $5/month...

I find that their tiered-rewards system is often confusing. Usually, I support a creator because I enjoy the work they ARE doing, not to get access to work I previously did not have access to. As such, I usually just make up my contribution amount based on the value I feel I already receive. I get the marketing line for tiers, but I usually honestly would rather see the tiers be a relatively high amount to get an exclusive thing, then "Support the creator" amounts which provide general support for the public output but no particular benefits. With the caveat that if there are obvious breakpoints, go with those.

needs more worker placement and an auction mechanic

I think we should make it way more complicated. No two people are allowed on the same tier.

Steve Berlin

This is a good point. The old tier levels are still there, just "unpublished". So if that ever became a problem for anyone, they can and should contact me and I will hook them up with a lower tier pledge.

Jonathan Rosenberg

The only real concern here is for the people at lower pledge levels: if their pledge lapses for any reason, the old, lower pledge level won't be available (based on my experience with other creators who have changed up tier levels). Other than that, I'm all for it, particularly considering it's causing unnecessary anxiety for you.

Thank you!

You can name the tier whatever you like, in your heart

Jonathan Rosenberg

Yes! Does Patreon let you create silly names for many tiers, but have them all be $5 anyways?

Aria Adora Guggemos

If someone pledged more than $5, could they name their own tier? (Subject to your veto)

John Card II

I like the silly names of the pledge levels, but I don't really care.

Auros Harman

I upped my pledge to $5 because I am happy to support you.

Sparky

I don't really support anyone on Patreon for the rewards, I do it because I am/have consumed enough of your content and enjoyed it over the years to pitch in and help you out. The rewards are just occasionaly pleasant surprises for me, so I'm totally cool with a simplified system, or really, whatever you decide to do.
