Minimal ACES Colour Space List

I've spent the day going through the ACES config file and deleting all the colourspaces that aren't needed. It took ages deleting a chunk and then doing a test render to make sure the colours were still the same... But I think I've managed to get the list down to the absolute minimum it can be.

"role_data" which replaces "non-color data"

"role_matte_paint" replaces "sRGB"

"Utility_Linear_sRGB" is used for HDRIs

The other ones I don't use but when I deleted them they messed up the colours so I think they have to be there. Hopefully this makes it a lot easier to use ACES in Blender!

You can't add non colour because it's not the same in aces. Aces has an equivelant though which is role_data which does the same thing. So set your non colour textures to that instead. As for importing the models with the textures... That's just part of the process. It doesn't automatically set it up because they're not native file types like a .blend

I am using Aces, but when i import fbx or obj files that have textures with non color data I get an error with the line above. I am new in the space and so i need to know if there is a possibility to add non color to the ocio, with the assumption that this will allow import of fbx/objs with non color textures and then convert them to role data. is this a possibility?

Muriithi Nyaga

Oh are you not using aces? The files are setup using aces which might be confusing it

Alfie Vaughan

i keep getting an error with the line TypeError: bpy_struct: item.attr = val: enum "Non-Color" not found in ('ACES - ACES2065-1',... is there a way to include non color to the ocio?

Muriithi Nyaga

Hey! Unfortunately the only way is manually unless you find some add-on that does it but I don't know of any. Fbx files aren't great for importing textures

Alfie Vaughan

hey, thank you for this, I have a questions. I seem to be having an issue with importing fbx assets that contain textures with 'non color' color space, the model imports but does not import roughness, opacity masks and normal textures. it only imports srgb textures albedo. Do you have any clue to go about this other than just manually importing these textures into blender?

Thanks brotha!

Thanks Gehrig! I agree it makes a massive difference. Good luck with your project! :)

oh shit! Dude! What a gift! Just about to be starting in on a big VFX project and was debating whether to try Blender Aces again, this is a friiiiiggin awesome tool. This is a game changer for any Blender user tryna get Aces goin!
