Skyrim video #2 update (public post) (11/8)

Skyrim video #2 update: tldr: writing is taking a lot longer than expected, video is getting delayed into late November/early December. 

Been a while, and I figured I should do one of these updates because I’ve been saying the next Skyrim video was going to be releasing around this time. Unfortunately, that’s just not the case. Writing has been a challenge for this video, mostly because I’m trying to push the quality of this video by refining what worked well in the mage video, but also because some of the topics (like the Companions) have required A LOT of work to make into something that’s new, insightful, entertaining, and coherent.   

So far I’m very happy with the results, it’s just taking a while. Also, writing about nothing but Skyrim for the better part of a year now is starting to take its toll, so summoning the motivation is tricky. Also autumn is upon us where I live and as someone who has outdoor hobbies [foreshadowing a discussion in the next video] it’s hard for me to not spend time enjoying these days outside before they’re gone.   

So where is the video at? As of this moment, the script is at 47,000 words which is roughly a 4 hour runtime. I’m about 1/2 into the civil war, then it’s just a bunch of side quests and a few daedra quests, the intro and conclusion. I expect the runtime will be around 5 to 5 ½ hours when it’s all set and done. Thing is, I had to drop Dawnguard from the docket, so it’s getting kicked over to the 4th video with Dragonborn where it admittedly is a better fit, anyhow. Meaning this video is running longer than I originally planned with a whole 1 hour section cut from it; so yeah, this is a dense video. I’ve also been recording the narration as I finalize parts of the script, so that’s going to save time when editing begins.   

It’s picking up now that I’m done with the Companions, and at my current pace I’d have the video complete somewhere by mid November, but I have it on good authority someone else is going to be dropping a big Skyrim analysis video around that time so… yeah… I’m gonna push mine towards the last few weeks of the year.   

I don’t really have anything planned in the interim: I got a lot of work left on this video and I’m gonna need the extra few weeks to get it done. Regardless, I’m confident in saying if you enjoyed the Skyrim Mage video, you’re probably going to like this one. It should be worth the wait.
