Tutorial: Different Lighting Technique

Okay so thanks to Hake-Feretto, who asked me a very fine question.
Why i didn't choose the certain color for a character at first but choose monochromatic colors for all characters instead.

Because that's the easiest way to define where the light comes from. But also, it's a reminder to remind myself what lighting technique i want to use for a scene. Lighting is a very interesting work, different lighting depends on different mood, different situation. Depending on what i want to focus on as well like i said before. Make sure you use the right lighting at the right situation.

Take my old monster university tickle scene for example. It's a sunny day. So the light comes from the sky, where everywhere is surrounded by the sunlight. So i choose the brightest color for the sky, and then go darker to the front subjects. When everything is settled down, i will start to give them the certain colors.

For the second situation. It can be a cloudy day. Where a beam of strong light happens to cover at a certain place in the middle of the background. OR it can be something that you want to emphasize. It's all up to you, all your decision. This is another fun part of drawing.

And finally, the night scene. Normally the subject that is close to you can be the brightest thing. so always give the bright color to those which are close to the front, and then go darker to the far background. UNLESS the background has a strong light, for example, the background is a prosperous city, etc.

Hopefully this tutorial helps to solve your question. If not, please let me know. I'm willing to answer. :)
