An incredible episode. Poor Gale! By the way, a fun piece of trivia: the song Gale sings before Gus goes to visit him, “Crapa Pelada,” is a satirical Italian song from the 1930s, written in Milanese dialect. At first, the scene feels lighthearted and almost out of place, but the song choice carries a much deeper symbolic weight. The lyrics tell the story of a bald man, probably a satirical reference to Mussolini, who selfishly cooks and eats tortellini without sharing them with his brothers. The tone is playful, but the underlying message is all about ego, isolation, and self-centered behavior. This is where the song subtly connects to Breaking Bad and to Walter White, after all, if we’re talking about ego, the parallel is hard to ignore. As an Italian viewer, this choice has always stood out to me. It’s such a small, unexpected detail, yet it adds another layer of meaning to the scene. These are exactly the kinds of touches that make me love this series so much.
