2025-01-21 14:04:28 +0000 UTCremember reading this chapter of the manga back then, looking back it might have had the biggest impact on me personally even if I dont have a father figure in my life or even if I think Frieren is an overall way better anime/manga. The fact that Paul always was the most "human" portrait character with all its flaws and we still looked up to him and then beeing taken away from us in such a quick moment rly let me feel pain like it was a real loss. 10/10 reaction btw. love how u guys analyse stuff after an episode, not to much talking, not to little , just good, Thx for that, appreciate it

2025-01-17 14:04:45 +0000 UTCand also a big factor in this plays the fact that Rudy has no battle aura, something that anime completely omitted for some reason, battle aura is the thing that allows warriors in this world to move like superhumans and have supernatural reflexes while Rudy doesn't have that which makes him much slower and more vulnerable to attacks especially fast ones

2025-01-17 12:50:44 +0000 UTCYou might wonder why Rudeus froze suddenly, from the start of the battle hydra had only been using necks with heads to attack. So Rudeus came to conclusion that only necks with heads are a threat. After taking down 2nd last head, he was looking at the last one, and with his eye of foresight saw that the last head is not moving something which he couldn’t understand. He thought the hydra was not moving, but in reality it was attacking with its headless necks (as seen in anime where the first attack, where Paul called Rudeus a moron and pushed him aside was from the neck whose head was just cut and was burnt). With this new info that headless necks can also attack, he began keeping track of them (as seen in anime with him looking at Talhand and Roxy, being attacked by a headless neck), but as his focus shifted, hydra launched its attack causing Paul to sacrifice himself for his son. Plus If you are fighting thinking you are in a 5 v 1, but due to sudden development you relaize its 5 v 9, you would focus on the new development as well. Also the fact that Rudy is a magician that attacks from distance makes more sense for him to freeze because he is slow in movement and in adapting to the sudden changes in the battle.
