Regarding Pudding, I did expect Sanji to pull off Something like [31:50]. But only to make her shooketh. Not a real redemption. If they somehow start her redemption from here, I'm curious how they pull it off. BUT that doesn't mean I'll forgive her. Because I'm on the page as Prez here: [34:25] THAT is also exactly the reason why I still haven't forgiven Boa, either. Let me explain before you burn me at the cross: Before she helped out Luffy - out of purely personal reasons mind you, and not to keep her kingdom safe, as in her arrogance she thought she could defy the Navy - she was still a terrible person. She suffered at the hands of people in power, but then fell in the same abuser mentality, just to hide her insecurities. Margaret and her friends, Granny - who saved her life! - then looking down on the kids and people who loved her. And NEVER did she apologize. Without the Luffy Love Gag, she'd just be Wapol with tits. And until I actually see her caring for her people, and bowing her head to them for her past actions, I won't forgive her. So I can only hope, if they give Pudding a redemption, to do it better. Let her do some proper reflection. But until then, like with Boa, she has my pity, but not my forgiveness.

2024-09-10 05:47:07 +0000 UTCI agree, as much as I understand Pudding's reasoning behind why she is the way she is, that's still not an excuse for her behavior towards Sanji and others. The sad part, though, is the fact that Big Mom didn't even care to defend Pudding from the townsfolk living on their islands, to the point the child had to retaliate the only way she knew how--with violence. I also love how Sanji is able to dodge both the bullet and jelly bean, so no matter what Katakuri's vision saw, not even he could get past Sanji's observation haki.

2024-09-09 04:54:02 +0000 UTCLuffy really pulled up in the best way possible ! About pudding, sure her trauma did make her who she is today, But she hurt Sanji at his most vulnerable state, so I do like how she'll get what she deserves. Plus her twisted personality is still there, just like how someone who is mean and vile to others could still care for their family, friend, or pets with all their heart.

2024-09-08 17:35:26 +0000 UTCAlright so lemme tell my opinions on Pudding. First of all, yeah fr she is a very complex character, and I really love her for that. Whatever personality she's in, acting or just being herself. Childhood trauma is a real thing that can make people do all sorts of wrong shit When she revealed her true self, I felt REAL betrayed. But weirdly so, these eps made me feel very sorry for her. I mean mans just said that her eye was beautiful. It might not be a big deal for someone, but for her it was an ENORMOUS deal. Not once in her lifetime would she think that someone would call her eye beautiful. Because her whole life, everyone around, including her very own mom was calling her an ugly freak and that became an undeniable truth for her. And so, with her self-worth being very low, she chose to build this thick wall of acting and being useful just to please her mom so she would get at least some love for what's she is. It was a bitter-sweet choice because Big Mom would still call her ugly and we saw that Pudding still doesn't like that at all. But at the same time, she was being praised by Big Mom, so I guess she just came to terms with it at the end. Regarding Sanji: I think that for her, her actions were justifiable because it was just another act of being a useful daughter to Big Mom so she be praised and loved by her some more. For her Sanji was just some random-ass regular prince that would automatically hate her for having that "ugly" third eye and lose his interest in her. That that love isn't even genuine because he doesn't know shit about her and her trauma. So she didn't even try to attach to Sanji, because again: the whole world around her says that she's a freak. So for her it's a fact, that can't be proven wrong. So for her, Big Mom's plan is a convenience (bc why would she feel bad for a guy that would hate her? He wouldn't even try to understand her anyway. Let him die like the kids that bullied her. Mama will praise and lome me yay!). She thinks that she doesn't deserve to be genuinely loved at all, unless she's useful. I get people not feeling sympathetic towards her because she betrayed Sanji in such a brutal way, I think it depends on the person, idk. I personally forgive her for that betrayal, she doesn't even know wtf is she doing with her life at the moment so it's okay. That was my opinion on that. Sorry if I confused yall with my english, it's not my first language. Thanks for reading!

2024-09-08 16:23:24 +0000 UTCI think this is the closest to how I feel about Pudding! Been struggling to put a finger on it lol I don't want her to experience the worst outcome but also won't be happy if she's casually taken in and forgiven like she wasn't about to shoot us AND would've already killed others if not for the fact the wedding was soon, so maybe just wishing for her to be left alone to fix up going forward by the end of the arc but we'll see

2024-09-08 14:28:51 +0000 UTCPudding is a very complex character. First you love her, than hate her and finally sympathize with her. Trauma though should not be an excuse to harm others. Her backstory gives an explanation of why she is the way she is but it's not an excuse for her actions. I still can't get over the sadistic pleasure she was having from mocking Sanji's proposal and from the idea of shooting him in the face. I'm sorry for her but she's not innocent, no amount of trauma exempts a person from being held accountable for hurting others.

2024-09-08 13:39:09 +0000 UTCBig Mom herself is sort of setting the tone there, she has her whole collection of rare animals and prides herself to have all kinds of races living in her land, but she still views them all as rare specimens and considers them weird and different. It's less for diversity and more for rarity and a collection mentality.

2024-09-08 13:03:08 +0000 UTCI agree with everything here except that you can't really comapre Sanji and Pudding's outcomes of their backgrounds in the way you did here because Sanji wasn't able to become hateful or anything of the sort because he escaped and met Zeff?? In real time he only suffered for 6 months before he left

2024-09-08 11:52:42 +0000 UTCI love how everyone around Pudding when she was a kid looks like a cast member of Nightmare Before Christmas and they out there pretending that Pudding's third eye is the creepiest thing they've ever seen :/

2024-09-08 10:41:00 +0000 UTCI'm a big fan of the Pudding moment. Not because it redeems her, but (as with many villain backstories in One Piece) I think it just nicely shows you how people became who and how they are. Everyone has a history, everyone has their own story and people aren't just cruel or evil for the fun of it, but it's their response to what they grew up with and experienced. It isn't always the "right" response and/or justifies them, but you can understand it. (Just like Sanji's brothers being designed to be "heartless" explains why they are the way they are, but it doesn't mean you then have to "forgive" them for what they did to Sanji. Or very extreme example: Doffy's childhood and origin shows you how he became so vain and narcissisitic and the scene where he is getting tortured as a child feels very wrong on him, but it doesn't excuse anything he does as the villain he becomes eventually). And I like the "other end" of it even more, because it just emphasizes the kind of person Sanji is. HE went through arguably even worse treatment as a child, he was rejected even more to the point of being rather called dead than acknowledged, was constantly called a failure and abused by his own family, but he instead didn't become vengeful and hateful at all (I mean seriously, if you give Sanji's backstory to an insanely sadistic villain getting revenge on anyone that ever wronged him, you could have people go "yeah, I get it" with that), but instead he came out of it still having all that empathy for others, that breaks even the stongest of defense mechanisms (as now in Pudding's case or also as a callback way back at his introduction with Gin, where he also failed to kill him, because he was shown kindness in an unexpected moment). So while it surprised me in the moment, I think it's a great "resolution" to the Sanji being mocked and betrayed by Pudding moment. And it works so well, because I feel almost every reader/watcher still kind of has this urge to see Pudding suffer and to get back at her in some way for that betrayal. So at least I almost felt "called out" by Sanji standing above that with just a genuine empathic reaction and breaking through that "cycle of hate" because yeah, sometimes hurting people back just because you can isn't what is actually solving anything.
