That one goes to our MVP here at [38:55] Although... my favourite female character for this arc is still big mom. She's so unique as a villain. Crazy, but smart. Funny and very dangerous. She might actually grow to be my favourite post time-skip villain!

At the time he likely was only able to alter her physical form, giving her bodily enhancements. From that, he then learned how to alter emotions/psychological aspects, which he then applied to the second pregnancy, which is why Ichiji, Niji and Yonji were born both physically enhanced (like Reiju) AND psychologically altered. Sanji was only spared this due to the toxin Sora took. Also, note that the popular comic strip that everyone in One Piece knows Germa 66 from is called "Sora, Warrior of the Sea". So far, it's still unclear whether naming the (male) hero who fights the evil Germa 66 in the comics Sora, after Sanji's mom, or whether it's coincidental. Knowing Oda, it probably isn't.

Sora was just that kind-hearted a person that, even though Judge has always been obsessed with regaining Germa's former glory, she tried to see the best in him, so she never spoke ill of him to his kids. She just never thought he'd resort to using their children for experiments.

Judge removed all the emotions he thinks of as making someone "weak", which are the ones that make you care about others rather than yourself and the ones that make you hesitant like fear or doubt, but there is certainly stuff you would want to keep in your "perfect soldier": stuff like anger, hatred, essentially everything that makes you more aggressive and ruthless.

I sometimes see people claim Judge isn't ultimately that bad of a father, because he "only" was cruel to Sanji but "loved" his other kids, but what he fundamentally did to them and how he sees them has nothing to do with loving your children. Erasing their humanity so that they are better tools and weapons he can send into war for his ambitions would earn him a worst father ever award even if how he treats Sanji wasn't a thing. So in that sense the brothers are also very much victims here, but then that also doesn't in the end change everything they did. And it's weird with them being emotionless, because they do clearly have some, just not any sympathetic ones (Essentially anything that could hinder you in battle, but stuff like aggression, hate, anger etc. still seem to be very much there and to different extents). Beating up Sanji is e.g. something they very much enjoyed to different extents as they gained not really anything from it. And they still act quite differently, Niji seems extra arrogant and cruel and seemed the one that extra enjoyed harming Sanji, Yonji always gives off a bit of jealousy vibes and proving himself as the youngest to the other two, while Ichiji seems a bit more indifferent with a sense of superiority over the others.

2024-08-25 09:05:46 +0000 UTCWhile Ichiji, Niji, and Yonji did become super soldiers as Judge wanted, I do think the toxins Sora took altered them to express SOME emotions, just lacking in sorrow, compassion, sympathy, and empathy. But the fact that they can laugh and enjoy (cruel) activities, makes them not 100% emotionless. Still monsters, but that's by Judge's design. Because Reiju was born "normal", she got experimented on after and got similar powers and abilities as her brothers, but she still has emotions that she just trained herself not to express.

The way she talks to him before the operation at least seems like they were close at some point and she feels betrayed. I also always suspected that Judge actually loved Sora and ended up blaming Sanji for what she did, because he is the one it worked on, so on top of Sanji being a failure to him he also hates how he reminds him that Sora died because of that. Plus the fact that Sanji looks like Sora the most, I think it added to Judge putting the mask of him to not see that face anymore that reminds him of what in the end is obviously purely his fault and not Sanji's.

2024-08-25 07:59:21 +0000 UTCPeak. Reiju is enhanced physically too, but it wasn't until Sora was pregnant with the boys that Judge wanted to get rid of emotions too, which is why Sora was so upset. Physical enhancement is one thing, removing humanity is another. Also the name Sora was revealed when Vito(Bege's long tongue crewmate) was gushing over the Germa 66 comics. But interestingly enough, Sora was the name of the hero of the comic who fought against the evil vinsmokes.
