2024-10-12 20:58:20 +0000 UTCRemember that there is like 16 years between this episode and episode 20-32, For me I started watching around auguast 2015 and these episodes came out in september 2017 so almost 2 years had past for me, but I have heard of people who have been weekly watchers since like 2008. So I think some updated flashbacks are okay to fill the gap.

When we first met him, Sanji was willing to give up his life to protect Zeff's dream ship, instead of accepting Zeff's sacrifice to LIVE for their shared dream. And during Drum Island, Sanji even sacrificed himself to safe both Luffy and Nami from the avalanche, not expecting Luffy to come back for him buried in the snow. And don't get me started on Thriller Bark, when Sanji tried to stop Zoro from sacrificing himself for their crew against Kuma... Sanji's always put the crew and others he cares for over his own wants and needs, never believing he was worth a damn thanks to Judge and the Vinsmoke siblings. It makes this scene all the more tragic, really...

All those years I just rolled my eyes at Sanji's woman-wooing buffoonery, only to burst out laughing when all three brothers did it. Damn you, Oda, you wore me down! 2) I think it's often forgotten or overlooked because of all his simping, but Sanji's core characteristic has always been his kindness and, more subtly, his sense of unworthiness. His own family impressed on him from a young age that he's a failure, and while he loves his new true family (the Strawhats) he doesn't think of himself as being as valuable as the others, and that the least he can do for his crew is sacrifice himself, thinking it wouldn't be a big loss for them and that they'd get over it. Remember how the Strawhats, Sanji included, have NEVER turned their backs on a friend in need, and yet here is Sanji, surprised that Luffy and Nami are trying to rescue him. 3) If Sanji were genuinely happy about getting married and staying with Pudding, Luffy would accept his decision. Despite acting like/being an idiot most of the time, Luffy is a great captain because he KNOWS his crew. He knows their dreams and aspirations. He knows this isn't what Sanji wants, and he'll be damned if he leaves someone he loves so dearly to a life of misery.
