One Piece Episode 673, 674

15:00 Agreed. I'd go as far as to say that the Tontarra's are my favourites for this arc ! So very wholesome (sometimes too wholesome), yet also full of willpower. Heck, I think I love them as much as the giants. 18:00 She might not be the strongest, but to me, Sugar is the scariest after Doflamingo. 30:05 Man that was tough to watch. Like you said, it's like they rewrote him for that part. He was so much cooler in punk hazard and even fishman island. Cocky yes. Scared too. But at least not a jackass. 35:05 Okay, maybe they wrote it that way, because it was much more heart-wrenching. Seeing the Tontara cry like that actually made me tear up. But I'm glad he turned around to make the lie into a truth!

Usopp is someone who can't do these brave things when he's alone, if he still remembered Robin I doubt he would have ran like this, but since he had no direct support to anchor his insecurity and fears his flight instincts took over strongly. Usopp is a coward by nature, it's just who he, he's someone that runs away. If he could easily stand up and fight then his dream of becoming a "brave warrior of the sea" would have already been completed.

I like the way you put this

Usopp is just a stupid character , never liked him, and its getting worse with each arc. Should have left at the Water 7 duell with luffy and be replaced by literally anyone else. The Wolf guy from CP9 was also a "coward" but way more interesting in every way.

yeah, this seriously put Usopp at the bottom of my list. I know he's suppose to be a coward, but he always gets angry and fights for what's right when the full scope of the injustice becomes clear. But he's been trying to get out of this since the beginning, and this just puts him in full coward territory. Complete 180 from whatever growth he showed up to now, and I don't take anything he does seriously anymore. It's extremely disappointing how Usopp's character gets ruined here, and it's my one problem with this series. He remains worst straw hat to me. And that Robin excuse is flimsy at best. He's had plenty of moments before Robin ever joined up.

Yeah, Usopp fleeing after everything was a rough sit. I feel like if Robin's memory didn't leave him, he might have stayed to avenge her, but... He was by himself, mentally, taking on two big bosses, so I GET why he ran. That's just Usopp by himself. I'm just glad he did turn back around. I also find it funny Luffy and Violet are just pulling a Ocarina of Time scene, spying on Doffy the same way Link and Zelda did to Ganondorf. XD

Remember that brave Sogeking was born to save Robin. With all memory of Robin gone, there is no Sogeking... its just plain old Usopp. And then when he turn around finally its like the rebirth of Sogeking, this time without the need for the other strawhats. I consider this a huge character development

Ussop runs when he's in danger. if his friends are in danger, he stays and fights, like with Chopper in Alabasta and with the Straw Hats at Enies Lobby When Robin got turned into a toy, Ussop forgets about her and tries to run away; he's too cowardly to fight for himself He liked the Tontottas but he didn't consider them his friends, just people he lied to. It was only after they declared they would die for Ussop did he consider them true friends and chose to fight for their sake.

This is what I consider the start of the serious pacing issues with dressrosa and how they actively impact how people take in the story.

For me this is a big character development for Usopp . Yes He ran away Because he's all alone (I already forgot everything about Robin) . but at the end he still came back for total strangers like Tontattas

During Water Seven/Enies Lobby, Usopp underwent significant growth in courage. However, when he forgot about Robin, he likely forgot some of the pivotal moments from that adventure. These moments were crucial in shaping his character, like Sogeking. So I think him running away fits well and shows his bravery when he comes back to help the tontattas. They did prolong it a bit so, I get being annoyed with it in that sense.

I get the frustration with Usopp especially in the anime, where the stretching of the material makes you wait for the turning around so much longer, but I think especially the erasure of Robin makes this nota regression but still a new level of "bravery" to me. Because yes, Usopp already in Syrup village on introdution eventually turned around to fight, but that was for Kaya, his "crew" and his village and then later these moments are always for the Strawhats, who are his new family. Here with Robin being gone, he is at least in his mind all alone with a group of naive strangers he just met a few hours ago and lied to so he wouldn't get captured. Him putting his life on the line without any of the other Strawhats in his back and not even really for any of his friends but a group of people that simply believe in him and not even the real him, but a different persona he can sort of dissascociate from, is actually quite a step forward in terms of becoming the brave warrior in my view.
