This adaptation showed me something. I (like many, I'm sure) thought I disliked live adaptations because of the deviations from the story. But this show has showed me otherwise. I don't need or care about a direct retelling. In hind sight, that would be silly because we already have the source material to enjoy. The problem has always been the disrespect shown to the originals. You can absolutely make changes and bring in your own uniqueness to a project like this. Honestly that's needed if your gunna have people actually be passionate about a project. The simple thing of staying true to who the beloved charterers are and what they stand for is all it takes to ensure that the magic is still there. As an example, when I think about it. I could have been fine with the storyline they went with in the Halo show if they had let master chief be the character the fans have all loved for 20 years. This show has its good and bad but at the end of the day they crushed the feeling of who the straw hats are, and that's all that was needed to make this a loveable show.

2023-09-19 20:37:59 +0000 UTCIMO, One piece shouldnt have gone so long. especially the Anime. which has so much filler and empty scenes. IF the live Action pace keeps up its nice. Though thinking how many seasons they would need for that? (S2 wraps up Alabaster Arc/Baroque, S3 Skypia and Enies Lobby? S4 Moira/Brook/Saobody, S5 ImpelDown/Marineford, and then thinking ahead without spoiling... current manga would be S9/10 then? Thats a damn lot for a netflix series!)

2023-09-19 16:42:55 +0000 UTCi dont think its spoiling in a live action, its foreshadowing, the original material they're pulling from is the manga more so than the anime, and they're not doing over 1000+ episodes, the author of the manga said originally he only planned on one piece to go on for 5 years..... at most... a lot was added as he was going on from his original storyline, with that being said now he can supervise the live action and approve/ help rearrange and shorten it the way he feels better tells the story in a live action adaptation. i think the pacing is going to zoom past once we get all the main crew characters introduced in the upcoming season/seasons

2023-09-17 06:56:54 +0000 UTCThis is a real solid adaptation that was enjoyable overall but I totally get some of the issues y’all had with the choices made. In front of all the cadets Garp just says to leave the straw hats alone which is a lil weird. Ultimately, if this gets more people to check out one piece (helll even my sister was asking me about starting the anime) then I can’t be too mad.

Though it is not really a real complaint because the show is really good just that at the expense of Usopp and Sanji storyline is a little too much. I really rather see more of Usopp and Sanji more screen time. Both of them adding together did not even have the screentime of Grap or Coby or Helmeppo. It is quite a regret.

2023-09-16 00:42:50 +0000 UTCI don't mind Koby, I actually think the actor was great as well, but there was just a lot of screentime for that storyline with a very thin and straightforward character arc that was essentially 90% done at the end of the first episode and then was just a constant repeat of "did you know there's corruption in the marines and Koby isn't about that but is too new and naive to do much about it?" It just felt odd in a show that had to at the same time rush through the Strawhats backstories and them bonding with each other when Koby's arc gets stretched out over the whole season with what felt like the very similar conflict over and over again. Koby and Helmeppo becoming closer almost got more screentime over the season than even Luffy with some of the especially later joining Strawhats and going forward those relationships are just gonna be so much more important. So while I didn't really dislike the Koby stuff it felt like someone was hitting the breaks to fill some time with his story, but then we needed to fast forward through some to me much more important stuff to make up for it.
