[CRITICAL] Warning of Changes to Patreon Billing

Currently, Apple iOS is requiring that Patreon make some changes to their charging method if they would like to remain on the app store. This will affect some things here.

Firstly, Apple's service adds on an additional 30% charge to purchases [Again this is for Apple iOS ONLY, meaning if you primarily use patreon through the iphone version App], and only works with the 'subscription' based method of charging patrons. Subscription based means re-occurring charging on the date that a patron signs up.

Currently, I'm using Charge First of the Month. This is what a large majority of supporters wanted to keep by formal Poll, even after the subscription billing was introduced, so I never switched. I assume many structure and expect their bills all around specific times.

By November 2025 ALL patreon users will have to switch to subscription based, though patreon has stated if I don't make any actions it will automatically switch to this on my behalf by November of this year.  Since it's inevitable, I have no choice but to let this occur.

I assume, if you're a long time member that hasn't needed to leave or pause from my patreon page, you will keep your 1st of the month date. However, if anyone new joins, or returns from a pause, you will be charged on whatever date you hop in monthly.

"So about that 30%?"

I do not receive this what-so-ever. The extra percentage goes to Apple if that's your preferred method of using patreon. If you would like to avoid being charged an additional $1-$3, you can use Patreon in regular computer browser. I absolutely encourage this if possible. I really don't want anyone paying more than they need to. If you use Android, you don't have to worry about this charge either.

Hopefully Apple won't have any more demands.... They've been twisting lots of app's arms in the past few years.

Unfortunately there's nothing I can do about Apple's involvement with patreon. It's entirely up to patrons what method they have their pledges charged through. I think you can still use the app, but set up your payment method through regular computer browser, which would avoid any apple fees.

Out of curiosity can you refuse Apple Pay? I know how it works through POS systems but idk if it works like that through Patreon. If you can refuse it, do it. Show Apple they're not going to take peoples money for literally no reason.

Ahh, it was only a matter of time after they did the same thing to Epic Games. Absolute bs on their part, but thanks for letting us know!

that's some hot nonsense from Apple, sorry you've got to deal with that
