You asking how One Piece fans keep up with how many characters there are is actually kind of funny, because part of it is the unorthodox design of a lot of the characters that can make them look ugly. A big part of it though is because the author actually utilizes each of these characters in the pretty compelling story arcs that he writes. So if I look back to the arc that you are in the story, the Baratie arc, I can remember the story beats and by extension all the characters, even the minor ones like Fullbody (though I only remember his name because it's a wine pun)
