Minimum wage should be $27 an hour - PERIOD - I’m not exaggerating that’s actually what it’s supposed to be, listen.
The concept of minimum wage was specifically established to prevent the exploitation of workers, AND to eliminate poverty through wealth inequality, by pegging how much capital individual workers were creating through productivity with how much they were actually being paid to create that capital!
Minimum wage was proposed in 1933 by President FDR four years after the start of the Great Depression, and from 1933 to 1979 it was directly correlated with worker productivity!
But hey guess what happened in the 80s? Baby boomer’s favorite president Ronald Reagan was elected, bringing in Reaganomics and trickle-down theory, which basically says, taking money from the middle class and giving to the the ultra-wealthy is actually really good for the middle class, and then this shit happened:
Wages stopped rising with productivity, and income inequality skyrocketed! IF wages were held consistent to productivity, by 2024 the minimum wage would be $27 an hour, and that’s what you deserve! And when Republicans tell you that increasing minimum wage would cause unemployment and inflation THEY ARE LYING, in 1968, the last time minimum wage was raised to match productivity, the unemployment rate was 3.5% (HALF OF WHAT IT IS TODAY and even lower than the rate before the pandemic)!
America is the richest country in the whole god damn world our GDP is 21.5 trillion dollars, China is seven trillion dollars behind us! And our poverty threshold is a lie! Oh my god I have so much more to say, follow for part two.
