May I just comment on the subject of armed merchant ships. Second world war era, fast merchant ship(with the exception of a few fast liners) 18knots on a good day weather permitting. A warship, 21 to 30+ knots.

May I recommend for Northern UK subscribers who are unable to afford a trip to Japan the small maritime museum in Barrow in Furness supported by the dockyard where the manufacturers models of several ships built by Vickers Armstrong particularly the Mikasa.
