It's the "Refund" update...

So I was going to issue blanket refunds today but it's fairly apparent from messages on my posts, direct messages in my mailbox, discord and the forum that more than quite a few of you think this is a rather poor idea.
You've cited the fact I'm still working on it, that you support me and not a product, that refunding now will slow me down getting the 3090 and a host of equally valid reasons. And they are valid. They are. I get it .
But, being a patron in this industry is a big leap of faith at times - and that's not something I want to take lightly. Nor do I want to lose sight of the value for money aspect. Yes, it's true that in theory a patron isn't buying a product but there is a commercial angle to it that I feel as your developer I absolutely must not lose sight of.
If, for example, Chapter Three had taken a year to come out after Chapter Two it wouldn't have made the chapter any weaker, but from a patron's point of view would it really have been good value supporting me in making it? Not really, would be my answer.
So yes, "It's ready when it's ready" is all fine and well, and equally chimes with my own views on not releasing anything that isn't as good as I can make it. But, if I get an animation wrong or have to tweak game play or whatever the reason, I can neither expect to be supported regardless nor indeed should I.
Y'see it's about trust. I want you to be able to trust me with your patronage. To know that in return for your support you get a fair deal. To know that I'll always try my best and that if I do screw up I'll take responsibility for it. To know that I always have that one eye on what makes good value for you and not to take you for granted.
So, where does that leave us?
On the one hand I feel as though I should refund this month - this to me seems the fair thing to do. Equally, I don't want to disrespect the wishes of those who feel I should keep their patronage. After all, it is your money and I have no right to tell you what to do with it. I find myself with a somewhat tricky tightrope to cross....
I think the best way to try and balance this is that I'll hold off for another week and then refund anyone who hasn't expressed a wish for me to keep the funding. I would like to take a moment here to say there is no wrong answer to this. Although I'm grateful to those who are saying "Keep it, you bloody fool" or words to that effect (and I am, truly), I know that this is a very subjective matter. To anyone who does feel like they should be refunded this month, I don't hold it against you in the slightest. I'm not fishing for anyone to say "Don't refund". I think you should have it back.

2021-03-20 06:14:47 +0000 UTCYou're welcome :) This is a big chapter and, graphically, a very challenging one. 20k renders vs 12k in Chapter 3 for example, and I suspect I was pushing my luck a little bit with just the 2080 with not a lot of error of margin for animation mistakes. But that was my risk - I don't see why it should be the patrons y'know?

I work for a large software company and have seen our monthly release day cancelled 2 days before the scheduled date several times and that's large development teams working on a release schedule. So if you as a single dev have some issues, you should see the bugs that sometimes happen in our company ;)

I think the AVN community and Pateon in general need more developers that are as concerned as you are about the integrity of their project. That said, I'm very enthusiastic about this project and I don't want to see any funds go to waste (if you refunded the money I'd only spend it on scotch anyway). So please, as a personal favor, keep my pledge for this month and put it to good use.

For me, supporting someone on Patreon is absolutely not a commercial bargain: if I decide to support someone, it is because I wish to show appreciation for the person and their work (it's not like I couldn't play the game without being a patron, after all); my pledges are totes free of any conditions or expectations.
