Most artists know how to use photo-references to familiarize themselves with certain poses or aspects of anatomy. But you can also use source materials to improve your values, colors, environments, composition and even story-telling. Consider building a reference library for a specific goal you have in mind, like stunning fabrics you always wanted to incorporate in your works, screenshots of movie fight scenes, or some distressed props to fit into the dystopian world you've been building.
