How I Draw Commissioned Artwork

Hi everyone! It's Makoto Tokisaka!

Many people have asked me about how to commission via email and the difference between commission through Skeb and email, so today I'm sharing a the process of a commission to explain the differences between Skeb and email commissions.

In conclusion, the differences are as follows:

1.The rate of commission via Skeb is lower.

2.Commissions via email allow for more communication. While using Skeb reduces a lot of communication costs, saving time for both sides.

3.It's possible to make changes when commission via e-mail.

Now, let's look at a commission process.(Thanks Reynn for allowing me to reveal the process of his commission)

Commission Brief

This is the second commission from Reynn, who requested an illustration of his OC, dressed similar outfit to my recent FuwaMoco fanart, with poses that show off the breasts and flat belly. The background should be suitable for swimwear, with additional features that fit the character.

Further Communication

Compared to using Skeb, commission via email allows for further communication about needs. Through email, I learned that Reynn wanted to use the illustration as a phone wallpaper, so I decided not using an A4 canvas and adjusted the composition to look good on screens from 4:3 to 16:9.

Composition and Pose Confirmation

This is the first rough sketch I showed to Reynn. He was okay with it except he prefer to give the character shorts in additional to current outfit.

Adjustments and Coloring Rough

This is the second rough sketch I showed to Reynn. Since he don't have a specific needs for background, I made some extra attemptions. When drawing Skeb commission, I would choose Plan 1, which is more conservative. But with email, I could discuss it with my client. Eventually, we decided to draw both plans and adjust the rate of this commission.

Final Confirmation

After completing the illustration, I showed it to Reynn for any final adjustments. He was satisfied with the result and there were no other changes. The commission complete!
