Brew witches, also known as Wine Witches, Beer Witches, Mead Witches, Ale Witches, or sometimes jokingly as a Brewja as a play on words, are witches that focus their arcane abilities into alcoholic drinks, fermentation, and revelry. Brew witches are known for their great knowledge of subjects such as distilling various alcoholic beverages, and the creation of various elixirs and concoctions beyond that of just a typical drink. Very closely related to, and often allied with Alchemy Witches, Brew Witches are the go to if you’re looking for some type of magic potion. Often employed in bars, taverns, mead halls, various dance clubs, and other locations where drink is likely to be served and merriment is to be had, if the barmaid seems almost too beautiful to be true even before you start drinking, and her beverages are unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before, it’s likely you may have found a Brew Witch. In old times, when Arcane magic on Earth, and Witchraft especially was prosecuted, brew witches would practice in secret, or work as medicine women, while in modern times on Earth they may be slightly more open, as it’s much easier to blend in with modern night clubs in more elaborate or gaudy locations, though government agencies such as P.R.I.M.E. Are still a concern. On Urth they are far more common, with some coming far and wide simply to taste the various magical elixirs and delicious drinks of a Brew witch, and some are quite famous. Not all Brew witches ferment alcohol in a manner to drink, but many create alcohol for medicinal purposes, and they are quite adept at brewing various cure-alls and even magical foodstuffs to aid their allies and cure what ails you. Of course, not all Brew witches are good however, as the arcane arts, especially to those born with such power, can be very deadly and lead a witch down a terrible path. Brew witches can sway the minds of those around them, their very breath able to cause intoxication, and their eyes able to cause one to become more and more inebriated and suggestible. This can allow them to talk or stare someone down into a level of drunkenness without a person even realizing it until it’s too late. This power is useful for many situations, however it can go even further as the witch can continue to afflict those around them, pushing these effects further with song and dance. All of the liquids within a Brew witch are alcoholic, so a prolonged session of sensual and passionate kissing, or sweating from copious movement can cause those around them to quickly fall into a stupor, and even further as their blood alcohol content can become deadly, even fermenting to the point where their bodily fluids themselves become an alcoholic beverage the witches often refer to as “Blood Wine”, a substance which they themselves possess flowing through their own veins, which can be cause for some of the more violent and unsavory witch hunts in the past perpetrated by alchemists and even other Brew witches due to it’s potent magical properties. Witches may collect their blood, sweat, tears, and… sometimes even their saliva or urine to use in alcoholic drinks or potions, as it contains not only alcoholic properties but remnants of their magic as well, and some may even sell it in various places. Because of their heightened alcohol content, a Brew witch cannot get drunk herself, though she is always experiencing a soft and elevating buzz, and she can easily allow it to take her into a false state of drunkenness to trick those around her, or even to allow for a state of meditation. Witches can often control alcohol as well, controlling the substance within someone’s body to drown them or cause them to rupture from it’s violent movements, or even controlling their actions through seizing control of their blood alcohol. One of the most vile forms of this is the Devil’s Dance of Death, a performance in which the witch will force people to dance, often times until they die. They may even take control of foods or yeast and cause it to expand or move unnaturally, with some even creating homunculi of yeast, or even alcoholic vomit that they can use as minions or familiars. A Brew witch can also alter her appearance to be much more attractive or horrific to those whom have had a little too much to drink. This can be used on a single enemy, or on an entire room, causing even more hideous witches to appear as the most attractive woman in town to the drunken bargoers. Witches who delve too far into the dark arts will become Brew Hags. Often times they will begin using their own bodies as distilleries, in the same way that alchemy witches will begin to mix concoctions within their own bodies. As the dark magic contorts and changes them, they will install various pipes and apparatuses to their own body and become something massive, and nearly mummified and preserved. Brew Hags, also known as Bar Hags, Yeast Hags, Ale Hags, Mead Hags, and other similar names, are deadly and vile creatures that can go unknown in towns for ages despite standing well over 12 feet tall. Brew hags emanate an aura of alcoholism from themselves in a similar way to a brew witch, however it’s much more potent and deadly to those spending too much time around the hag as it not only provides the effects of intoxication but will begin to make people dependant on it as well, with her eyes being able to nearly instantly cause someone an alcohol dependency issue. Brew hags can appear in their true form, or appear as they did when they were a young, beautiful witch, leading most to be none the wiser to her true form. Many Hags seek out children to harvest “Heart Stones” from them, condensed and calcified emotion that can generate in the child’s body from all emotions, but they specifically feed on emotions of dread, fear, and sadness. As such, many Brew Hags will pretend to be attractive teenage girls and get children and teens alike to take part in underage drinking and other debauchery to lure them in and slowly fester in a depressing, alcoholic stupor for the rest of their lives. Brew hags retain all of the various powers they had as a witch, but to a much greater degree, and they can gain various benefits from brewing potions and alcohols inside of their blood, which they can then spread to those around them with an intense, scent of brewing alcohol. This allows a witch to not only cause those around her to get drunk, but she could empower them with various potions of love, rage, strength, or vigor, but could just as easily afflict them with deadly poisons, and sickening draughts of supernatural disease. Brew witches will often be very good at fire magic, able to control the combustibility of the alcohol within their own bodies, and Brew hags push this even further, able to ignite their breath, and to be immune to their own flames, spewing gouts of white hot fire, or even causing the blood alcohol in one’s body to spontaneously combust. If a small town is known for a beautiful bar wench, and rampant alcoholism, it could very well be the hunting grounds of a Brew Hag. Like all hags, Brew Hags lurk sometimes within the Dreamlands and the Underside, seeking children to corrupt and feed on. Such Brew hags will often take on the form of teens and procure various fruity drinks and much more whimsical appearances. More modern Brew Hags may hang out in bars or clubs as a party girl looking to go home with someone, and others may even lurk in old, backwoods towns, targeting the poor and destitute.
