So talking to my hubby about this was illuminating, he grew up in the next Suburb over and was thrilled to hear about your podcast. It was long before he was born but infamous in his area. The pier apparently washed away in a storm only ten years after it was built. Last year some wild winds exposed the old pier pillions. Coogee is pronounced "Could-gee" don't ask me why, apparently means Smelly Place by the First Australians because of the masses of seaweed that used to wash up on the beach. He remembers when he was a kid they'd bulldoze it daily.
