Ocean Shores is a very sleepy retirement town where the median age is 61. If you like peace and quiet, it is a great place to be. If you want some tinseltown excitement in your life, as Krista Stodden did....not so much. She was a bored-of-life hairdresser with a shop there and obsessed with Hollywood and sure she was destined for something better. Her youngest daughter sprouted up with some looks and endowments she thought might make her quite...model-esque at a later age, she saw her as her "potential" and immediately began grooming her. In her eyes, this Hollywood wunderkind was her ticket out of a retirement hell-hole and her dead end husband.

As soon as she thought her daughter was ready, she was pushing her to perform locally in any capacity she could make happen. There is a small radio station there which she would be on from time to time. There is a public access station and Krista twisted the management's arm into giving Courtney a TV Show that was soon canceled because the 15 year old was far too sexual on the show. None of the recordings are believed to exist other than those people did from their homes. 

Eventually she decided she needed to break out of the locale and pressured the city council to declare Courtney "Miss Ocean Shores", so she could compete in "Miss Washington". Her title here was honorary, not earned through competition. You could count the number or teenage girls there on your fingers probably, at least back then.

The funny/sad/tragic thing of her is just how wrong every step her and her mother have made along the way was  and it’s mostly her mothers fault.  She’s the one who groomed her for all of this. If they had just waited until she was legally an adult, they may have gotten at least some of what they wanted. The whole purpose of that marriage in the first place was to create the basis of a reality show about this Hollywood couple with a massive age gulf between them.  That might have actually worked if not for 3 things: #1 Reality TV was taking a serious nosedive by the time she got to Hollywood. #2. Her being a minor was a bit of a bridge too far  for most audiences and  some people in positions of power were concerned it may have drawn some unwanted attention to how normal these arrangements are in Tinseltown. #3 her behavior (that god awful Twitter feed) on social media the first year or so really disgusted a lot of people.  Her entire attempt at a career has just been one long string of really bad decisions. Now she’s basically a prostitute and otherwise a cautionary tale.

Anyway, here is 15/16 Courtney Stodden, accepting the "Ms. Ocean Shores" title, with more clothes than you've seen her wearing in years. She is probably 16 or close to it in this because prior to this, she had been a brunette.
