When I began making minis for 3d printing, I had two things in mind - that the minis are table-ready when taken off the printer bed and that no extra filament is wasted. I never liked supports and all the extra hassle with removing it. Well, the supportless models always need some basic cleanup (and, well, painting) but at least one can avoid throwing away all that support material. I still haven't finished the filament spool installed in June (!), although I've been prototyping all those models and printing other stuff.
I always wanted to print a mounted unit in a fairly neutral pose, which seemed impossible without supports, In the attachment to this post you will find my attempt of a horse mini that prints without supports. After some testing and tinkering I'm fairly happy with how it prints on my Ender 3 , it's a certain balance between the desired pose and overhangs.
I'd like to see how it performs on your printers - let me know your feedback. The attachment contains rectangular and rounded base versions as well as a baseless one (from now on I will be providing baseless minis as well). Bear in mind that the big base can stick to your printer bed quite hard, so a raft might be helpful.
This post is available for all patrons regardless of the tier, as it was supposed to be released on the Patrons Day. Well, it is my birthday today, so it's a good occasion as any other!
