Hello everyone!
Done, finished the model and I will now start testing the model to decide where should I split it.
Update March 17th
Now we have fire!
Yesterday I finished the details on the body and started working on the weapons and fire. Unfortunately, I was not able to work on the wings.
Today I will work on the wings. I think I will also add some pebbles on the base (it looks too much stylized). After doing those things I will start splitting the model for 3d printing.
Update March 16th
Posed and sculpted the base. Today I will focus on fixing the model after posing (some pieces always look weird after posing).
After fixing I will work on the wings or the weapon.
I'm also thinking about how should I split this model (obviously he won't fit in the printer). I think that the base will be split into 2 parts. Malga'roth will have a split for each wing, besides probably in the hands and somewhere on the body.
I think that I will also make a full solid version of him (in case anyone wishes to print at a smaller size, I don't know how good this will work because of the chains and Wings)
Update March 15th
Refined the Armor parts.
Today I will finish the shield (by adding battle damage to it), and also start posing. I will leave the weapon after I'm done posing.
Update March 14th
Refined the body parts and blocked out the Armor pieces.
Since this is a big miniature having no texture at all would make it boring to the eyes. I have added textures to the body, since they have reptilian skin, I chose to add a Crocodile texture on the lower torso and some on the upper torso. Still not sure if this should be the right way.
I decided to make a Halberd instead of a Twinblade.
Today I will detail the armor pieces. I will also try to block some poses (currently I have no idea how should I pose him. What I do know is that I don't want to make him stand in the back legs and rise to deliver a blow, I don't want to show too much of the lower belly, and I want to use all the base (5 inches is a lot of ground to cover with ideas, depending on the pose it might be reduced to a 4inch base).
Update March 13th
Added more details to the head, refined a bit more the proportions of the body, and added some additional "bones". I also added a block for a possible weapon, I was in doubt about whether to make a Halberd or a Twinblade.
Today I will be adding the tooths, finishing blocking the wings, and adding a bit more details to the face and body.
Update March 10th
6 meters tall, in 32mm scale, it is! I switched the base for a 5-in base(does dnd use this size or only go to 4-in?), it kind of fits well, leaving the tail outside...
I am still blocking out the shape and refined a bit the arms and torso. I'm taking more time to make the anatomy more precise because this guy will be a Gargantuan Monster(or bigger, meaning that he will be big, and every detail will be more evident). I also started working on the head (such a beautiful smile lol), lots of work is to be done.
Today I will refine the shapes a bit more and add a bit more parts (like wings, and a few horns)
--- End of Update---
Today I finished the last support on the Forest Troll Warband, while I wait for a perfect print to take pictures and make a release I started working on Maga'roth.
I decided to use the help of an AI chatbot on this project hahah and it has been awesome and will share a bit of my experience. According to the AI, these guys should have 6.1-9.1 Meters, but what I had in mind was the CG version, and through some crazy calculations the AI told me that in the CG they should have 3.7 - 4.9 Meters tall. I asked for an art reference with the same proportions and it gave me the one attached to the images.
Taking what I had in mind and what the AI gave me I decided to start blocking out the shapes to decide the size. First of all 9.1 Meters is incredibly big and would be ridiculous on any table, so I decided to work with 6.1 and 4.9. On the left, we have the 6.1 Meters, and on the right the 4.9 Meters, both with a 10cm round base. The Orc is there as a size reference (he uses a 25mm round base). As an additional size check, I also set by the side the Pit Lord Tusk.
My opinion so far, the AI did a great job lol, now it's up to us to decide what to do from here on out. The 6.1 Meters tall was really big and won't fit normally on the 10cm round base. The 4.9 will be tight but I can make it fit.
What do you think, should I go with 4.9 (8,4 cm to the center of the eyes) or 6.1 (10,5cm to the center of the eyes)?
This is a WIP, every part is only a block to find proportions, not the final version, therefore some proportions may change and do not have details.
I will keep this post updated as I progress in this miniature.
Best regards,
Ivo
