Hello everyone!
Update:
I have finished updating my base meshes for the Female and male Elfs.
What I did do? For the male: Scaled down the head size only a tiny bit, and increased eye size, decreased feet size, and worked a bit on the hands.
For the female, I started increasing the head size to be proportional to the male character, so they won't be worlds apart, and increased arm thickness to be compatible with the "male" hand, turning it into a universal elf hand. Adjusted proportions from legs and torso. Both models are in something close to 7 Head proportion.
With the base mesh compatible with each other I will start working on the actual models for these releases. I will start with the pawn but something came to my mind so I am changing this a bit. Instead of doing pawns, I will create workers.
---End of Update---
Before I start describing what are my plans for this Theme, I will speak about the body proportions and why I was interested in changing those.
After gathering data and analyzing previous releases, I started to compare them together. First I took my base models used on previous releases and placed them side by side for a quick comparison. With the male model, I made Gelvain and The Elven King. With the female, I made the Elven Ranger and Conquest.
Male model
The Head and the hands are big but once equipped with armor and printed they look just fine. If I would change something in the male models is the length of the foot. Around 6.5 heads height
Female model
The head, hands, ankles, and feet are small, but not when compared to a realistic model. Having small hands is troublesome when gluing (at least I felt this), the details of the hands are barely visible on the printed. Around 7.5 heads height
Changes to base models
Looking at those models that I quoted before they look cool but, they look too different from each other. In this set, I need them to have the same style.
My idea for this is to add a bit more heroic proportions to the female, and remove a bit of Heroic from the male, bringing both to something around 7 heads height.
With this, I hope to make them less different from each other. I also have to keep in mind that they are Elfs, and with that in mind, they are thin by nature.
Another advantage to this is that I will make Weapons/Hands compatible Male and females, reducing the amount of work doing supports and test printing.
In this Theme
The idea is to start this theme in October after the Lich is done, and looking at the whole set, I am aiming to finish in November, so a 2-month Theme.
I will break them in the following manner:
October:
November:
I decided to add more pawns because I had some Ideas. All units will be modular. I will make batch releases for this, meaning that I will work on a set of miniatures at a time and release them together, this will happen because of shared hands. I might have an idea on the last miniature of the set and to avoid updating the store, this is the best I came up with.
Working this way might be a bit tight on the schedule, let's see how it goes.
If you have any comments or suggestions, feel free to leave them in the comments.
Best regards,
Ivo
