Hello everyone!
Update July 18th
Unfortunately, I could not work on N'zull yesterday as much as I wanted. I haven't uploaded a picture today because I have posed him and right now I am working on adding more details, the next image you will see it's the finished miniature :). Since he is a large miniature I don't expect to finish him today, I will try my best for tomorrow (I definitely wish to print him ASAP). I won't be uploading this post, the next post will be a Simple render with color and test print pictures.
Update July 16th
Finished the armor, I will still make the cloth but those will come when posed. Now I will work on the wings.
Update July 15th
Started refining shapes from the shoulders to the foot. Today I will finish the rest of the detail on the leg armor, and move on to the wings. I will make the wings a bit thicker so that you can scale him down without problems.
Update July 14th
Yesterday I Refined a bit more the body and the head a bit more. Finished blocking out the shapes of the armor that he will be wearing.
Today I will start refining the shapes of the armor and adding details. The face is not complete yet, I want to finish the body and pose him so that I can add a facial expression that works well with the pose.
Update July 13th
I have finished a rough block of the first Dreadlord. Looking at the most recent arts I saw that they now have five fingers in the hand, but I kept the old anatomy with only 4. For this body, I chose a large build like Anetheron or Lothraxion. I have added a blood elf as a reference. I think the size is good.
I am still in doubt about the wing size, I think I'm going to make them longer.
Talking about N'zull, since this guy is big and I wanted to make an interaction with Gelvain, I am cutting down the second pose. That won't be needed. I will make the cut on the Arms above the Armguards, this way it will be possible to have the modular with another option or the interaction pose.
For Hands: Empty, Spell, Drainlife 2H (Spell + Gelvain)
I will now make a head (Right now it's only a ball)
I think it's too early to speak on this but since this guy is big I was thinking of hollowing him when done. I will add a cut on his head to reduce printing time, and cut on the wings to fit properly on small build plates.
--- End of Update ---
Today I have finished Gelvain Amberwood and he is now printing. While I wait I started collecting information to make the next miniature. Since I have never done a Dreadlord before and since they were not common when I played WOW, I kind of got lost. I want to take my time and make this right since this will be the first.
I can't take WC3 as a reference because they are units so every hero is on a proper size to match other heroes. I turned to screenshots and I could not find anything that could help me in this quest. While searching in the wiki I found "Nathrezim are enormous, imposing beings, taller than both felguard and doomguard." Another wiki says 8.5ft (2.59 meters tall) without the horns.
I searched again on Youtube and found a video in a quest(that is why it's so blurry), at this part lots of dreadlords spawn, they are not specials, therefore, I think I can take their size as a reference. I think that the character in question is a BloodElf priest, comparing the sizes the DL has maybe 2 Blood Elfs in height.
That means those guys are big! lol
Blood Elfs have 1.9 on average, meaning those guys should have 3.8 meters, if I put wings and horns, these guys will be massive. I think I will go with 3.2 or 3 meters, what do you guys think? Does anyone have a better reference?
Best regards,
Ivo
