Hello everyone!
Update June 24
I have uploaded the 3rd pose for the common Dragonspawn. I have already printed A and B, and they look great.
I am changing the plans for this month's release. Today I will focus on finishing the Pose C and putting it on the printer, after that, I will be uploading and releasing Pose A and B.
Even though I might be able to finish Pose C, D, Sorcerer, and Armored this month, I will release them next month. The reason for that is that I have to print, take pictures, make renders and upload them to the stores, but I also have to find time to promote something and see if I can get a bit more support, with the group renders. To avoid messing up month rotation I think it's for the best to separate these releases.
Update June 23
The Draconian Guard - Draconic Centaur PoseA has a WIP folder on Google Drive, my test print had only an issue with the support but it's now fixed. I haven't released it officially because I haven't finished the weapons, for now, only Sword and Shield are available.
Today I will be working on another pose and more weapon options.
Update June 22
Finished the first body Pose, and now I will work on the weapons before I print the first Dragonspawn.
Update June 21
Finished the body sculpt and started to block out the armor parts.
My initial plan was to make all of them and test print and release them at the same time (2 parts, a few this month and 2 next month) but, thinking again this does not sound like a nice plan, so I decided to adjust this plan. I will work on the first one to finish one and his weapons, to test print as soon as possible. This way while printing I have time to work on another (or not) and correct any imperfection that I find.
To finish the first I need to finish the bracers, and the Belt before posing.
Update June 20th
Added details to the head, and I will test print this head to make sure that I carved the details deep enough that they show in the 32mm scale printed version.
I will now adjust some proportions on the claws, before start adding details to the body.
After I am ok with the head, I will sculpt the mouth interior (There will be some open mouth poses).
Update June 19th - Part2 Last of today
Added 3 new images - I have created poses, 4 for the standard and 1 Sorcerer, and 1 Armored (No Armor yet), Those poses are there to guide me during the sculpting (part of the Planning). With this, I can already say what I will be adding as modular weapons in terms of options: Halberd(1 and 2 hands), Sword, Flaming Sword, Shield, Twinblade (1 and 2 hands), Staff, 2 x Spell effect.
For the sorcerer, I decided to add a hood, but I think I will be more like rags that cover his head and part of one arm.
Now I will go fix the head and start adding details there before I move to block out the armor.
Update June 19th
I have added some markings on the body to create the Idea of muscles and help me figure out where to add a bit more volume (90% of those lines will be gone in the future).
I was thinking that the original head was not dragon-ish style (more like a crocodile), so I thought it would be a good Idea to make a dragon head, it looks a bit more menacing but still does not look like the original. What do you guys think? should I make the original head style or adjust this one?
I still haven't added the scales and details yet.
Now I will create some test poses and let's see how it goes.
Update June 18th
The name of the set will be The Draconian Guard, later on, I can expand with more parts adding other Dragonkin to it.
I've tried to find ingame reference for scaling the model correctly, but I could not find any good reference for the size. I took a bad video reference to try to scale the model accordingly. They are taller and larger than humans. After doing this I think that they are too big for a 50.8mm round base. And probably way too small for a 76.2mm, if I increase the size the tail will also be out of the larger base. The human as a reference has 32mm to the center of the Eyes and the Dragonspawn has 44mm to the tip of the Horn.
I am still working to find better proportions and volume for this miniature. So far I decided to change the horn style from the original and a few body designs (Taking dragon anatomy as reference).
--End of the update--
I have placed the 4HM - Pale Horse in the printer and right now it's only a matter of time until I know if I have to fix support or if it's all good to go. In the meantime, I started to work for the Dragonspawns. For now, I am only searching references and planning what I can do in the time that I have left.
Before I continue, I ask for some help with a theme name for these guys, I am out of ideas. I wanted to make Dragons Rise or something like that but it didn't feel right since I won't be sculpting a dragon (it has scales and all but it's not a dragon).
About game models, 3 of them caught my attention. The 3 on the top. In those pictures I can already see something that I don't agree with, the Skinny one has boobs (I guess it's a female then...), I know that this might sound odd but these guys are reptilians and not mammals, so it doesn't make sense for the female to have boobs. In any case, with the amount of time that I have left this month, I probably can only make 1 body type, so I chose the bulky one (more common to be found in the game).
My idea is to give a nice Set of these guys but how exactly? There is practically only one set of armor that I will make, the other has only a few armor bits. Meaning that to give variety to the table I need to repose the models many times. Luckily I was saved by a piece of gear, the Belt, that divides the lower and upper parts of the model. This way I can create 2 poses for the bottom and 2 for the top and mix them together to create 4 unique poses.
I plan on Making 1 Armored (unique pose), 1 Sorcerer (Unique pose), and 4 Soldiers (mix and match). The Weapons will be Sword, Spear(Halberd), Staff, Shield, Fire spell, and Twinblade.
In the lower part are some miniatures from other creators in 32mm scale (I believe) that have scales, I want to give as many details as I can to these miniature scales. In order to save time, I will detail each leg or arm and work on the joints after posing (I guess I should be able to save some time). So that I don't have too much discrepancy between monthly releases I will be adding the 4 soldiers to this month's release and the Armored and Sorcerer to next month (even thou my goal is to finish them within this month's time window).
I will be updating this post as I move along in the sculpting process. If you wish to take part in the development please, leave it in the comments below.
I will be working all this weekend if no greater force stops me, so stay tuned for more updates! Let's do this!
Best regards,
Ivo
