Patron Commission May - Old Knight (WIP)

Hello everyone!

Update June 6th

This is the last WIP. I have Posed the model and done the weapons. I am working on the finishing clothes. After that, I will move to the head.

I was expecting to finish this model a bit earlier and do the variations but I lost too much time on the Lions, but that's the way. I was going to share only when done but decided to share it the way it is. The cape will be removable on 3d software like blender.

Due to his armguard's structure, I will be attaching the shield to the arm on the final model but it will be possible to remove it.

I decided to cut the base from this miniature to add the bible (Wich I will still sculpt).

Update June 5th

I have finished detailing the body and will add more once posed. Added a second head option (No wrinkles and not bald) I will use the movie as a hair reference. I will sculpt the beard and hair once posed.

I started blocking out the shapes of the weapons, for the sword I changed a few things because the Guard and shoulder were too big. As you can see on picture the blade is also very long. I don't like the shield from the reference so I kept part of the shape and will add a Lion crest in the front of the shield (It's still too early in shape). I haven't started the Hammer nor the bible.

Update June 3rd

I have added details to the lower part (Except the chainmail), and I will now finish the shoulders. I will also add a few leather belts to the Armguards.

Update June 2nd

I have finished the blocking phase and started adding details and refining shapes. Usually, I like to start from the foot to the head but, this time I tried to sculpt a lion head and make it as if it were some kind of metal sculpture (that's why there are so many sharp corners and crevices). After I made part of the shoulders, Since I already got a Lions head why not make the chest piece... so I added details to the chest armor. I spent a bit more time on the chest than what I was expecting but I think it looks cool.

I am not done for today, I will go back to my routine and detail from the foot to the head.

Update June 1st

I have blocked almost the whole miniature using basic shapes and added a few colors to map the progress. I Will add a bit more volume on the armguards.

Doing this made me think about the variations and what to do. Since he is using 2 different shoulders I will leave the shoulders as separate objects so you can combine them on 3d software and create variations. The cape will be a separate object for delete. I will also sculpt a cloth used by some paladins, that goes from the right and goes over the left shoulder (This will be a variation).

End of update

I have started collecting information for The old knight, to help me in the sculpting process.

The central image of him is the requested.

He will be using a sword and shield, I will try to make him with modular hands. As requested by another Patreon I will also be making a Hammer.

For the pose, I suggest the Top pose on the left or the statue pose, this kind of open pose is great for modular hands.

The pose from the art reference I feel is kind of awkward for a miniature because I personally don't like swords on the ground. In this particular case, I think he is also using a tactical rock to look cool.

The pictures on the right will give me a bit more info on the details and also will fill the gap where the drawing lacks details, like the foot.

I will be updating this post as I move along in the sculpting process. If you have any suggestions leave them in the comments below

Best regards,

Ivo

I'll find something haha

Fraser

Yeah it looks badass but it looks hard to find something like that

I just imagine some scene like these: https://images.app.goo.gl/u6v1SfiLsQ3ejBvWA

Thanks! I could not picture your idea but I will definitely check it out when you do it.

He is looking fantastic! I'm gonna need to find a cool base with some sort of magic effect, like a consecration style, so I can dye it with ink - it's the perfect pose for that sort of vibe!

Fraser

give him another option with the book, he'll be Uther Lightbringer right away

Give me him to paint :)

Thanks!

Loving the updates :)

Mini Manatee

Adding a Young head it's easy, making the hair would add a bit more work but doable, the problem here is the number of variations that it would create, If I add support to those versions will be too much time-consuming. But I will see what I can do about this since you are not the first to ask.

What about helmet, mounted or yonger version from first WarCraft timeline?

Very cool, I'm a big fan of the cloth over the shoulder, looking forward to seeing what you do with the weapon!

Mini Manatee

Yeah making that pose and those kids would definitely look awesome but It's more for Diorama purpose, one that I would gladly make if I had time. The kid wrapped in sheets is kind of easy to make but adding it would increase the amount of models because of the bended arm.

Gorga I don't think I can make a new head for him but I can leave the head as separate object so you can use blender or other 3d software and add another sculptors head. I can also pick head from other release so you can kitbash.

Its something I wouldn’t actually consider asking for since it would take a lot of effort for too few interested people, but I do want to say that the artwork of him leading that child by the hand and holding a baby leading the refugees of Stormwind through the snow to Lordaeron absolutely sells the Warcraft 2 Alliance position as well as the broader legacy of the human perspective of things in the setting better than any other piece. Also how disappointing that it was retconned to a short boat ride while watching the city burn and comforting the wee Wrynn. https://www.deviantart.com/samwisedidier/art/Warcraft-Lothar-WarCraft-II-Manual-450475816

i really like the character and the idea of the pose, the modular hands with the hammer add points, maybe a young version of the hero was nice, i was thinking something like travis fimmel in the movie? an extra face? but that its more work, so i cant ask anything, you are doing enought goood work ^^

Thank you for doing the hammer, should make him quite usable as WC3 Paladin :)
