Patron Commission March: Orgrim Doomhammer (WIP)

Update April 7th

This is probably the last WIP. I finished the pose, and I have settled with a strong power fist pose. There was no problem with the one pointing it was just that it did resemble too much the pose of another sculptor so I changed a bit. I know that in the end poses will look the same because there is a limit on body movements.

The Polearm hammer with the blade did not look good, so I discarded it.

I will still add battle damage to the hammer and armor pieces, front and back cloth covers, hair, head, and hands. I expect to finish him today but, I don't think that supporting him and printing will be possible.

Update April 6th

Added details to the Gloves, Shoulder, Chest, and finished the belt. Today I will start posing Him and then I will add the finishing details. I don't usually like to add Battle damage but for him it only makes sense to add, well he is an experienced warrior, and Orcs are not too attached to how beautiful their equipment is.

That gray part underneath the armor, after posing I will replace for a scale mail.

I might take a little longer to pose him since I have no idea how to pose him lol. I won't use Tactical rock, The lifted arm pose I just used on Hellscream. Running does not fit him well (although warriors tend to charge a lot, my favorite move back in the days ^^). Writing down this WIP just gave me an Idea of him holding the hammer and pointing his finger like saying "you're next!".

Update April 5th

Added details to the boots and leg armors, I started with the belt. In the belt I saw some references where the Horde symbol is carved directly on the belt and some there is a Belt Buckle with it, I will go with the second.

Today I will start the Gloves and Shoulder and move to the chest.

Update April 4th

Changed the hairstyle to something closer to what was requested. Added gloves block out and changed a bit some armor parts.

Today I will start detailing the model, I will start from the foot.

Update April 2nd

Started to block out the shapes of the armor, Black and gold will be metal, Brown leather, Red Cloth.

Don't mind the hair, I was experimenting and will replace it with another suggestion from Earwaen. I will block out the gloves before start detailing the armor pieces.

This WIP is just for me to check volumes and proportions. That Human "friend" is there to help us see the difference from a 32mm scale human.

--End of Update--

Hello everyone!

Today I have started the creation process for Orgrim Doomhammer.

The original request was "Orgrim Doomhammer in all his glory!" I have gathered some info about him and assembled a Pureref sheet.

There are many moments from him and his armor changed over time.

In Warcraft Movie he is bald (also looking at Metzen art), while some newer art shows him with hair. I will go with the Movie reference because hair does not grow back once you are bald.

All his glory I suppose that's the moment he became the leader, in this case, he will be wearing Thrall's armor (that was given to him by Orgrim), I don't know about this but I wish to change a few things on the armor so that it's not exactly same. The boots and knee protection from the Warcraft movie are kind of similar to the Thrall armor but a bit different so I will go with that.

For his weapon, Metzen's older art suggests a blade on the tip of the Hammer and another art suggested a Polearm Hammer, even though it looks strange I kind of like that design. I will probably make that weapon as a variation.

I probably won't make a cape version for him (I don't think that orcs are cape friendly)

For the pose, I think I will go with a heroic pose with raised feet (Space marine style, just remembered a meme "quick! Look for a rock")

Please leave comments on what you think and how he could improve. Earwaen has the final saying since it was his request.

That's it for now. I will keep this post updated as a move on the sculpting process.

Best regards,

Ivo

Starting to come together! If Muradin had to lose, I´m glad it was to something so fierce.

Just seen the newest WIP! Looks great Ivo!

I‘d prefer the OG Metzen style with the braids. Not a fan of the movie version. I‘d pick him at the time just before the battle before Blackrock Spire at the end of the Second War.

I totally agree with that.

lol I laught at that. well.. it really looks like thrall lol. I also like the movie version of that bulky orc but I don't like the head, it looks too human (with fangs). Thanks for the references, I have added them to my sheet.

I would say bald on top with the braids, like the original Metzen art. The movie version looks too much like every other generic orc and won’t give you much room creatively to distinguish him.

RE: armor. I guess Earwaen should clarify which they envisioned, but Orgrim as shown in your "armor" reference, the "classic" Orgrim wearing the armor he gave Thrall, with the Doomhammer weapon he gave Thrall, and hair like Thrall.. well.. he looks a lot like Thrall. I definitely love the look of the big bulk Orgrim from the Warcraft movie, with exadgerrated armor size, like this statue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKSNInUGP3k This art: https://www.puttyandpaint.com/images/uploads/artistworks/26659/orcowarcraft2__sized.jpg or as Thrall sees him in his visions: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/wowpedia/images/6/6a/Thrall_honors_Doomhammer.jpg As for the actual Doomhammer weapon, the Hearthstone art is great: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/wowpedia/images/a/a2/Doomhammer_TCG.jpg Either way, look forward to this one!

Movie version Orgrim is badass.
