Defenders Of The Glade - Bear Form (WIP)

Hello everyone!

Update February 25th

After trying other fur methods I decided to stick with the old fur because it had more volume. I worked on the blend between the fur clumps so that they looked less awkward and smoothed front and back legs.

Now I will export the files and start supporting them, hopefully, I can test print later tonight.

Update February 23th

I finished the first bear pose, I still have to add the extra leather belts so that it resembles more a druid form than a wild creature.

Since I am not sure about the amount of fur maybe I overdid it. I will test the print before adding more details to this Bear.

Bears are furry creatures and having this amount makes it easy for drybrush but I don't know if this is the way. WOW bears are furry but only in 2d not in the real model.

Update February 22th

Finished the block out of the shape and made a better paw for him. I don't usually do this but this time I decided to try a pose to see if the proportions are ok. Please note that this pose was just for testing purposes.

I liked how it turned out so I will keep these proportions. The ears, however, I will give them a more sharp and pointy look.

After making the Ears I will make one pose in an aggressive stance and add fur to it.

Update February 21th

Same day as the post but still I wanted to share my progress and let you change my mind.

In the first picture, I placed the block of the Bear in many forms, on the right side of the picture there is a Tusked bear and a Dear Horn. The mane on the back is only temporary.

In the second picture, there is a comparison between the Bear, Tenon Fairbreeze, and the Sabercat, the base on the scene is a 50.8mm round base.

The original model has a 4 claw paw but I will go more to a bear style and make it five. If you have any comments, please leave them below.

--End of Update--

Today I have finished Branthir Dewmane (I only need to do supporting and print, but is manageable for later today), while I don't make those supports and print, I decided to start the Bear form because this month schedule is kind of tight.

Let's talk about the bear. I have attached my reference sheet for this model

The first question that came to my mind when starting to plan this is the size... what should I make?

To fit a bear on a 25.4mm base I think it's hard because he has four legs (and would probably be so small to fit there properly).

I will make a block for the bear and try to find a size for it using real-life examples. If it ends up large, you guys can scale down and glue on an angled object, to increase the base size without really increasing the base. If there is time I will also make a standing pose for it. Tell me what do you think, anyway it's easy to adjust for now.

If you have any comments or suggestions please leave them in the comments below.

Regarding the many races options for bear forms, I will make a few of them but It won't be available on the miniature, instead, I will create a folder for this on Google Drive and will not support them.

Best regards,

Ivo

I think the fur should be either more/realistic or less/game-y. It's kind of uncanny valley right now. Thanks for making it for dry brushing. Super convenient to paint that way. Loving the grumpy bear sitting pose too!

I think these bears are one of my favorite things so far.

Yeah, I was in doubt to make a normal bear but, ended up doing warcraft style even if doesn't sell much at least if kind of hard to find.

I like that you are making one with long elf ears. Been wanting one of those for a while and I haven’t seen any.
