Headphone Drone

Something always prompted him from the back of his mind to make sure to get an hour in every day. It was compulsory, forcing him to forgo invites to make it. Even stranger, he didn't know why he was so intent on working out so much so much now.
He never had body goals before despite his time spent exercising. He'd always been healthy, making it to the gym only a few times a week at some point before he started going daily. That's when the headphones had become part of his routine, locked around his head the moment he stepped into the gym. It helped him focus better anyway, listening to the sounds playing on it. Listening on repeat.
His brow furrowed, remembering he still had the headphones on. What had he been listening to anyway? He heard words continuously playing on them in a droning voice, but the moment something was said the phrase was snatched away from his memory like a dream, quickly replaced by another. And another. And another.
He couldn't stop listening to it as he felt his brain begin to go numb. Each suggestion quickly sank into him, his eyes glazing over as he was commanded to sit and wait. Soon his mind was no longer there, just an empty vessel waiting for command while his programming played on repeat from his headphones.
In a few minutes the previous holder of the headphones walked in, the one who had gifted the tech to Otto. They smiled, looking at the dumb muscle daddy Otto had turned into as he sat compliantly on the bench, an obedient drone ready to serve its master.
