Finn was worried about his job. He'd been doing construction all his life but always had trouble focusing, constantly getting distracted by coworkers and other things. It all came to a head when his boss finally shouted at him to get his work done that he felt he needed to do something.
He considered getting earmuffs to try to prevent anyone or any sounds from distracting him. When he was about to buy a pair he came across some noise-cancelling headphones that were supposedly designed to help him focus. He ended up buying a pair, wearing it the next day at work once he was given his job. He completely forgot about everything else once they were on.
He was brought out of his zone when he felt a hand on his shoulder, prompting him to take his headphones off. He was surprised to find his boss.
"Good job, go home"
Finn felt confused, looking at the time and realizing it was an hour well after the workday ended. He couldn't even recall what he had been doing all day, but something in the back of his head kept him calm, accompanied by a good feeling to have worked all day. He was stuck wondering what had happened for the rest of the night, even up til he arrived to work the next day.
He pulled out the headphones, getting a strange feeling that he shouldn't put them on. The thought disappeared just as quickly, almost as if he was forced to forget about it. The headphones were back over his ears.
All form of self-awareness disappeared the moment they on his head, his consciousness suppressed. His eyes glazed over falling into an empty gaze as he began going about the site. All that was left of him was an obedient hand going about his duties.
He couldn't stop himself from wearing the headset every time he was on the job from then on. His programming was reinforced every time he spent a day with it on, his individuality slowly dissolving. His body built bigger and bigger over time, becoming used to the non-ending labor. It wasn't long until the headphones broke, but that didn't matter. He had become a diligent and obedient worker, only able to focus on the task at hand, never anything else in his head.
