Howard had always been proud of his service, an important chapter of his life that he would never forget. He kept many of the habits he learned over his time, staying disciplined remembering the value of dedication. He made sure to shave every day, keeping his body and face entirely smooth. He'd workout, staying constantly fit and healthy, constantly growing his muscles. With a sound body and mind, he knew it would affect his life to be just as consistent.
That's what he first thought. He didn't expect how much an unrestricted diet could affect him. He was used to the balanced meals, always filling himself up on pre-portioned items that were only healthy. Life as a civilian wasn't the same. He always had immediate access to American food, able to eat whenever he was hungry. He slowly lost control of his appetite.
His body had begun to grow, his meals increasing in size. He was able to put on a ton of muscle, but all the extra calories began to take their toll. His body had begun padding out with fat, his stomach rounder and rounder as he grew softer and curvier. His muscles had lost their definition, replaced with malleable dough. His smooth body only emphasized his new curves, no hair to hide the ridges and valleys of his fat.
He denied it at first, still able to flex and bulge his muscles, but in the end stopped caring about it altogether. He could eat whatever he wanted, staying shaved, knowing he had muscles beneath his blubber. He had grown more comfortable with the change, knowing with sound body came sound mind. He wasn't the soldier he once was, but he wasn't ashamed of his new self. All he saw in the mirror was a disciplined bigger and more muscled man, and that's all that mattered.
