that being said.....I remember when my grandmother passed away in korea, even though my dad was here in the states he went there and kind of HAD to make all the decisions (plus he was a doctor) and I know there was a lot of stuff he just didn't tell my grandmother bc he knew she wouldn't understand but that was more end of life care type stuff which is different than this but kinda the same principle.

OFTEN times (given how old school things still are) the male heads of households ends up making a LOT of the decisions even without a specific legal document. I can see this situation happening in korea honestly. Now, keeping a diagnosis like CANCER is a tad extreme for storyline purposes but I can see it happening honestly.
