New Zealand Postcard: Post-concert Black Dress on a Small Apple Tree.

Hello loves

Reading comments.

What it says on the tin, below.

The scale here is different, as usual. Fighte fuaighte. My distant gaelic cousins, trailing me over here.

Just a quick word and some picture postcards from Aotearoa New Zealand.

I’m thinking a lot, experiencing a lot, ruminating a lot, traveling moment to moment, and most importantly, spending a lot of time with my fellow human beings and old friends here in New Zealand. It’s hard, leaving a whole community and coming back, trying to make it all fit in a short time. Especially with a kid.

Working internally, posting less, digesting more. Thinking about the larger themes, watching American news with a permanently dropped jaw, closing my jaw, digging deeper into the why behind the what the fuck, one, two, nine layers deeper, working on the book, taking it slow, soaking in these few moments of sun before returning to the northern hemisphere.

It’s also so good to get the perspective from all the people here who aren’t Americans. I needed it.

The Auckland concert last night was just wonderful, incredibly special and drag-queen-tasting; I’m up in the wiles of the north where we escaped for a quick friends and family visit.

I’ll do a huge post-tour post when I have time to put all the show photos and my thoughts together but for now….feast your eyes on this beauty.

And I’ll see you soon, Australia.

First up, title track, I posted this little shot of my dirty - well, clean - laundry to FB and IG today. 🤣

I missed many things about Aotearoa New Zealand but it did not occur to me that I missed apple-tree drying my sink-laundered show clothes.

It dries fast here in the sun.

Und now. The last few days - minus the show photos, which will take a beat to come in from the house photographer….

….woven into and through each other.

All good, got a ticket.

Lisa JW

Hey Amanda - is the Melbourne show all sold out? I was not sure whether to come or not as everything has felt so heavy, but I’d like to see your show, can’t seem to find where to buy a ticket? I’d like to hear your new songs. X

Lisa JW

Hello, is there any chance I can purchase your ticket? I’ve been taking some time away from Patreon/the community and have decided to go on Sunday but it appears to be sold out. I am so so sorry for what you are going through and hope you and your loved ones stay safe.

Lisa JW

Amanda, we have just had to cancel our trip to Melbourne and to your show. It is too unsafe to travel from where we live. The fires in Victoria are major and the winds keep changing direction. We will see you next time you visit Oz. Love you and my apologies. xx

Don’t ever worry about hassling me - I love that part of my job. Thank you so much for coming, Fran. ♥️🎹♥️

I saw this at the Auckland show and kind of wanted to ask the owner about these treasures, but I was feeling a little too shy.

Fran

I feel so privileged to have been one of the handful of people who got to see your Auckland show. The drag queens were amazing and your songs touched me to the core - it was really special. And everyone was so lovely, it felt like a really safe space. Also I do apologise for hassling to get some things signed, Amanda - you were very kind and I was somewhat star struck. Thank you so much.

Best picture: Upside down castle with vehicles inside. Why yes my son is grown up now but my family says I'm immature... so guess who's still got ALL the toy cars n such. :) :) :)

One of the sleight of hand of adulting is becoming our own parental figure. Love to you & all, Len

Good to have you active here again.

When is a vacation a retreat? When is a retreat a vacation? Enjoy, Len

That dress on the tree. It waves. 👋 Baby is teething so mama's not sleeping. Weee. Bigger kid is gonna get a wart removed today and he's highly sensitive so... I'm afraid for him. It's going to hurt... 😭 Husband and I are each having a difficult time separately... I don't feel like I can go to him for emotional support. And he's going back and forth between being critical/mean (but not controlling or physical) and easy to talk to and feel hopeful with. So my life is a rollercoaster rn. A friend and I are reconnecting, on video messages, and it's giving me life. I crave a parental figure for stability and love.

Putorino* sorry

I think I feel for this Patreon what Amanda feels for New Zealand, so here's a little note on the geography of Love & Support I deeply recall all the care and solace this Patreon gave me (and which we ALL, gave each other) during COVID and the first lockdowns ❤️ you were ALL my lifeline! So, since then, whenever I hear Amanda sing "Oh, little Island I love you," my soul smiles in recognition, and I mentally hear: "Oh, little big group I love you." Community really IS everything. 😘 It's the Power of Many Loves, isn't it? ❤️ I hope you have an exhaustingly smashing time, Amanda. 🥰 Allow yourself to be held. (You've held so much these last years 💪) Allow yourSELVES to be held, everyone. ❤️ Much Love P.

The fighte fuaighte concept must seem especially relevant to you, on this whistle-stop tour of yours, Down Under? I wax lyrical, but am certain there's a wonderfully mysterious call-answer between your Antipodean kith, and your kin - both in Boston and the original Hebrides - channelled through your music, your Art. And between you, yourself, and said (diasporic) kith and kin. If I strain my ears, I am sure I can hear it...bagpipes...didgeridoo...puturino...PIANO... Hope your hols have been most restorative and nourishing! Can't wait to see you live, this weekend, Amanda. Thank you for these concerts 🙏🎹💞

With everything going on in the world, I hope your time with old friends and community was a little patch of normal. You deserve it.
