I sympathize. I've had to uninstall and get rid of certain PC games because I couldn't stop playing them; I can only imagine what this must be like with how accessible it is on the phone.

The only way I quit was by getting a new phone. It didn't keep any progress for some reason, so I figured until they get that figured out, I won't play it again.

These sorts of games aren't designed to be fun; they're designed to be addictive by activating the reward circuits in your brain with intermittent rewards (of decreasing frequency). Fortunately, that sort of addiction fades relatively quickly if you just force yourself to stop playing. But you probably can't achieve a middle ground where you play a little but are not addicted.

I've been playing this game since I joined the fandom in 2016. I was able to obtain 300+ characters over the years without paying a single dollar, yet the price was to constantly check the status of the game... It is possible to finish the current Fake It event without paying anything (I finished it during a BronyCon panel earlier today!); the key is to never let your coin stack get full, and always level up your antagonist (in this case, Fluttershy) immediately when you have enough coins. Your power level would grow by 3, 5, 7, 9, and finally 12 per upgrade. In terms of getting characters... The best way right now is to check out bundles in the shop, where old characters often get 75% discounts. Getting all the bit-purchasable characters is a tedious process, but once you've spent over a year gathering characters, you'll have enough to actually finish the "Group Quest" that came out last year. That Group Quest is a gem-generating machine, I tell ya... probably even better than the gem-producing shops, as long as you keep scoring 500+ points. Another gem-rich thing is clearing parasprites/changelings/vampire bats/dark crystals/vines in all the places (each place has at most 5 per day)... but this needs accumulation of element shards, which are best obtained in Zecora's Hut.

I'm at level 157 after playing since the game first came out. You're welcome to friend me - my code is 57655. On the plus side, the people at Gameloft working on this clearly watch the show and read the IDW comics and have fun writing additional material. One the minus side, I'm not happy that the game seems to encourage kids to gamble and spend real money on ephemeral digital items that have no lasting existence.

I played it for years back when it was new but got out when I lost all my work when my phone died. I got back in when some worked out some hacks for it. Then they baned all people that use the hacks :) I was fun well it lasted.

Thanks. I realize I am super far behind in the world of mobile games. Lol! I seriously have had this less then 2 or 3 weeks... and I somehow am level 73... I think I've spent way too much time on this. I am not sure I spend the money though, because in reality it's so pointless. It's just chasing bits or gems... and for what? A poorly designed 3D pony or a 2D building? I realize this... yet I can't pull away, Mr. B!!! Very cool you got everything though that's free. I want to do as much as I can for free too I think.

It's still on my tablet at home, in a few hours I can add you and give you some of the daily hearts that you'll need to unlock Zecora and a few other things like balloon pop prizes IIRC.

I played the shit out of that about 4 years ago. I stopped about 2 years ago when all the events started being impossible to finish without either paying or being glued to the thing 24/7, and all I had left to do was basically grind for unlocks in the pirate area by playing the same 5 EQG dance songs and the minecart over and over. I got pretty far though, I have pretty much everything you can get for free and a few extras. If you're ok with paying a little more, wait for one or more of the gem factories to be available for $15 or so and you can make several gems per day for free.
