Trunks Boxer Briefs
Added 2023-04-23 18:51:46 +0000 UTC- The android/cell saga is by far my favorite of DBZ. Is it the best written? No. Objectively there’s other Sagas that beat it but it’s my favorite.
- In large part my love is because of future Trunks and the androids. They’re almost a box set, so similar in their appearances that if you told me that they’re all related I would believe you. Their clothes aren’t related to any martial art or warrior uniform. They’re punk, with pierced ears, damaged casual wear, and Jean jackets. It’s all so Hollywood influenced too, with the terminator and alien franchises so transparently referenced via the storyline or designs of the characters.
- Trunks’ last name is Briefs. His mom, Bulma, means bloomers in Japanese( we love Akira Toriyamas naming process) and while we don’t get her Dads first name we know his last name is briefs. I like to think Trunks is named Trunks B. Briefs, and that his middle name is actually Boxer. It sounds stupid but I think it falls in line with the other name logic this series follows.
- I had the most fun drawing 17 but drawing 18 was cool because I hit a lil bit of a groove so things are just a lil more fluid. I was originally gonna draw a scene of them fighting trunks, but I remembered an older drawing I did of them. The androids profiles being prominent in the foreground and I thought yeah let’s bring a big side profile trunks. Complete set.
- Also! The change In my style and my approach is very obvious with these illustrations that are 5 years apart. That’s a topic for another day though.
