Finally out of no where, we plugged it into a 2010 iMac and it read the external drive! Right away all the files from the external drive were moved over in a big heap onto the desktop of that computer. We are quickly backing up that computer, than will save that data to another drive and move it over to the "Art" computer. All of our records, files, backups, and personal photos were saved (at least we think). We're all super relieved and are super happy our 2017 Seagate 3TB drive had just enough life to finally appear on that iMac and we saved the data.
To combat this from happening in the future. We have purchased a new Western Digital MyBook external drive with 4TB of space. We had to rely on a very very old Western Digital 1TB drive to save our contents, and that device is about 12 years old! So based off that, we think they are pretty reliable. We also still have another 8TB Seagate external drive. This will also be used to backup our computer.
We will also be looking into a Cloud service such as Carbonite or SOS or something... Currently taking advantage of Amazon's Cloud for Prime members since they allow unlimited photo storage (which is very helpful and a good start.) We will also start saving files on the computer instead of relying just on external drives.
So in short, we will now have 3 different places in the very near future to save all our data. A computer and 2 backup drives. Plus as mentioned possibly a cloud service.
You guys were all so helpful! Like a bunch of techs jumping out from every corner giving us great advice. If you have advice on good external drives, or a backup cloud service, let us know!
We're so happy we got all our future Adorkable episodes including our Christmas week stuff. Really thrilled to have all our past ones too. And real thrilled to have everything else we had on those drives. Christmas miracles do happen!
