I am a little late on my weekly post, and for that, I apologize.
I spent the last few weeks cleaning and moving my grandparents' belongings, as the home needed to be completely gutted to the main support beams. I hand cleaned black mold from furniture and sentimental family heirlooms. It was extremely labor intensive and time consuming. I still have hundreds of photographs left to clean, but I got the bulk of it done.
I just delivered a truckload of things down to my mother's house, in Virginia, so that we could go through what's left together, and discard the items that could better serve another family.
On my way to Virginia, I made a stop in Maryland to work. My first session of the day was my favorite photo session so far this year. I worked with a wet plate photographer, and we made 8 absolutely stunning plates. Each plate was completely different from the last. It was an inspiring and fulfilling morning.
I have spent the rest of the week just enjoying time with my mother and siblings. Although it's loud and dysfunctional 80% of the time, I really do appreciate all the togetherness. As I was in the basement doing laundry, I was overcome by this warm feeling of nostalgia when I could hear all of the commotion going on upstairs. As much as I enjoy living alone and having my quiet time, I realized in that moment that the vibrancy and togetherness of my family is not permanent. Our family dynamic has already changed so much in the last 5-10 years. So I have spent the last week in my pajamas, simply being present and appreciating the chaos of the mess, the loud music, the yelling and laughter, the dogs and the cats... knowing that some day I will long for these moments.
Thus, my tardiness here. Sorry!
Tomorrow, I journey back, 8 hours north, to Jersey. where I'll be local for a few weeks before beginning my spring tour. My tours will be fewer and fewer, (but more condensed) as I begin my transition into graduate studies. During this transition, I'm focusing more on my own projects.
'Morning Fix' is one of those projects. I started exploring this theme in 2015, and have been waiting for the freedom to expand upon it. I'll be featuring some this Saturday.
Also to come, some of my latest musical explorations.
Stay tuned.
