Modding Diary - Undergrad Nursing Program
Added 2024-10-05 00:19:44 +0000 UTC

Hi guys! 🥰
Thank you all who participated in my poll last week! As the week came to an end it appears that the midwife career won by around 20 votes. That means I will be working on the midwife career for my next update, and then the death update afterwards.😊
;Honestly I think this works out perfectly because the new Life&death expansion pack that's coming out is gonna add some interesting gameplay on the death aspect of the game, that means I will have a lot more tools in my toolbox to use in my own update. I've never pre-ordered anything but I think I will for this EP. : D
For the Midwife career I started by creating the undergraduate nursing program which your sim must attend before they can begin working as a midwife. I did this because my research shows that education is crucial for pursuing a career in midwifery. The nursing school will be a rabbit hole, but the actual midwifery career will be an active career. I feel like finishing nursing school should give your sim a boost in the doctor's career as well.
Sims can join nursing school under the "work" menu on their phone
and Nursing school is expensive
school runs from 6pm to 10pm Monday to Friday
You will be able to get a part time job at the same time, but you can't have a full time career unfortunately due to limitations within the game😔 Nursing school works similarly to careers in the game, essentially you have to completely your daily tasks and "promotion tasks" and get "promoted" 4 times before you can graduate. im going to try to make the language more fitting next week.
when first joining the nursing school you will need to buy this Fundamentals of Nursing textbook which you need to read to complete your daily tasks
reading the book will increase your sims nursing skills
As their nursing skill goes up they should unlock some kind of special interactions or objects, but I am not sure what yet
Annnnnd that is all I have for this week. I've never made anything related to career or skills before so this is fun! if you have any suggestions please leave a comment down below! Let me know what are the things you want to see in this update!
Do you think you would introduce student loan option for nursing school?

Women's/reproductive healthcare in general would be great and would all go so well with this mod in the future. Like if you could go in and see a doctor or midwife for regular exams before you are pregnant, get birth control, have fertility testing and if needed, get fertility treatments.

Question on the nursing school part of it...In High School Years, teens can graduate early and start university. Will teens who have graduated also be eligible for going to nursing school, or will they have to age up first?

Maybe if you finished the death update you could do an IVF feature

if people think it's too much I can certainly lower it before release. I made it high because i wanted it to make somewhat of a financial impact on people's sims initially so that it feels more rewarding when they become a midwife and make a decent living.

love these suggestions! I just dont know if I have enough materials to support three different career paths at the moment, but it's certinaly something i can think about further down the line

Here in Europe (at least where I come from) you need to go to nursing school, like the mod implies (not uni, so no bachelor) and I think it's not realistic in Sims 4 terms that my sim needs to spend twice as much to attend nursing school as it would cost them (even with a mod installed to increase university costs) to go tu uni to become a doctor

As a registered nurse, I have been LOOKING for something like this! I appreciate you and your dedication to modding! Would you ever consider creating a nursing career in the future that goes hand in hand with this nursing school mod?

I got my bachelors in nursing and it costed me around 89,000 dollars, it I wish it was only 30 lol

I second these ideas! I especially love the idea of the midwife getting thank you letters and baby photos.

Could you create a training dummy object that the sim can practice delivering babies with? That could be part of the tasks they have to do to progress in nursing school, and they could use it in the midwifery career too.
Further down the line, maybe you could add a couple of different career paths (I’m forgetting the sims word for this) for midwives, so they could be the typical midwives delivering babies, or they could go down a research route, or they could go down an educator route so they end up teaching future midwives?
Maybe midwives could choose a specialty, like high-risk, low-risk, home births, fetal medicine, mental health, bereavement, etc.
As for things they might actually do as a midwife, they could check blood pressures, take bloods, take temperatures, urine analysis (or a more simmy alternative), measure bumps, feel bumps, write notes, check notes, file documentation, talk compassionately to the mother sim, listen to the mother sim’s worries and ease her worries, chat to mother sim to build some relationship, coach mother sim on breathing techniques or birth positions. I could write this list for hours 😂

Nice idea but I think 30000 is waaaay too much to attend nursing school.

Great work! When you get to the career, I feel like there should be some fitness skills involved with how much midwives have to help new parents move their bodies. Or maybe even wellness. It would also be fun to see herbalism incorporated in some way to this new career. As for I'm unlockables: you already have quite a few items in your birthing mod, so you can probably double up to add new interactions with a higher skill? Maybe use some of them to "practice" helping parents like practicing with the birthing pool to gain skills? Last, I think it would be cool to add some awards and maybe thank you letters, oh! And a baby photo collage to decorate a home/office/hospital
