The convenience and the writing as fast as possible towards an already decided end instead of the creativity we are used to. They thought the dialogue would carry the entire thing.

She similarly was a "she-wolf", a fighter, an adept horse rider and swordsman. Ned saw that and wanted to cultivate it in Arya, unlike his own father with Lyanna. Having perspective on her being Jon's mom and what that means to Ned is sweet. And Arya and Jon are the closest of the siblings next to Jon and Robb...and then of course Jon giving Arya Needle. It's all just really awesome writing.
