Light Shop Episode 7

"Afterlife"

Comments

The fact that the light the male student found at the end was a desk lamp used by students while studying is a detailed and emotional touch.

In Korea, it’s a traditional practice to give beautiful prenatal names when someone is pregnant.🍀 It’s not that these names are given to children who can’t be born, but rather they are names given to unborn babies. If a miscarriage occurs and the child disappears from the world, those children become deceased in reality. However, in the afterlife setting of the Lighting Store drama, these children continue to live with the taemyung their mothers gave them, as if they were born in that world. It’s so sad. The sunglasses man repeatedly says in the drama, “This place (the afterlife) is also a place where people live.” Just like in this drama, I want to believe that babies who were lost due to miscarriage are living happily somewhere.

45:33 Do you remember the beginning of the drama? The scene where the teacher was calling the students’ names? I was wondering, Why do the students at this school have such unusual names? That’s because these names are very rare as traditional Korean names. In fact, they are commonly used as taemyung (prenatal nicknames given to unborn babies). The words the sunglasses man recites translate to “Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter, Hope, Health, Happiness, Growth, Love, Wish, and Sunshine” in English. These are all names often used as taemyung. In the drama, the detective’s child was miscarried, and the baby’s taemyung was Sunshine. This place is the afterlife, and the children in that school are those who never got to be born, who passed away while still in their mothers’ wombs. It was heartbreaking. My mom once told me she had a miscarriage before she gave birth to me, and she cried a lot while watching this drama. I think it could be comforting for those who have gone through the pain of miscarriage. The story of the search-and-rescue dog and all the other narratives in the drama were deeply moving as well. The bus driver’s guilt, as he kept driving around this alley to bring the passengers to Light Shop, is truly heartbreaking. Kang Full is an incredible writer.

☑️ Damn Disney… They spoiled Moving with subtitles before, and now they’re doing it again with Light Shopㅠ Originally, the fact that Yoo-hee is the daughter of the sunglasses man was one of the twist points in the final episode, but Disney ended up spoiling it through their subtitle translation. There were a few similar spoiler subtitles in Moving as well. It doesn’t seem like you watched it on Disney+, but it looks like the Lighting Store subtitles were copied along with the spoiler-filled Disney+ subtitles. ☑️ Watching Light Shop before Moving Season 2 is released is quite meaningful. Light Shop serves as a bridge between Moving Season 1, its prequels, sequels, and the upcoming Season 2. Order of Kang Full’s Universe Webtoons: 1. Apartment 2. Timing 3. Again 4. Moving 5. Bridge (Bridge is the direct sequel to the Moving webtoon, where characters from Timing and Again intersect with the world of Moving, forming the connection within Kang Full’s universe.) 6. Hidden (Unreleased work) Secrets that remained undisclosed in Moving gradually unfold in Bridge, revealing the grand interconnected picture of Kang Full’s universe. The vast worldviews of Moving and Timing merge in Bridge, the sequel webtoon to Moving. It seems likely that Moving Season 2 will incorporate and adapt the events of Timing and Bridge along with the continuation of Season 1’s story! That’s why some characters from Light Shop might also appear in Moving Season 2. The author reportedly started writing Moving Season 2 this January, so I expect it will air in the second half of next year!

Yo, that effect with the detective's eye is small, probably didn't cost much for the special effects team to create, but man is it viscerally effective
