You show your feet, you might as well have flashed them your boobs. If you can remember back in an earlier episode when Eugene was getting a new suit and Ae-sin was there getting her foot measured for a new pair of shoes, she was very quick to hide her foot under her skirt when he walked in the room. So for Eugene to pick up her shoe and touch her foot, brush dirt off it, and put the shoe on her is as intimate as a kissing scene, considering such cultural context. (Which, i guess can add more layer to when Dong-mae grabbed the hem of Ae-sin's skirt.)

Also Eugene looking at the mirror looking at his name written in English, I think for the first time, he regretted becoming American soldier.
