SUBS

Okay, so this poll is for curiosity sake.

We can finish both Sun and Goblin with the Viki copy, HOWEVER the copy that would be on the Patreon video would be a different copy of that episode. The copy that you all would be following on Patreon would be the same copy that is being used now. This is due to some complications with getting the Viki copy for our video.

So this would be done to help us clarify and understand the show we are watching a bit better. It will bascially be the same as is now, the only difference would be the subs we are seeing, since we are watching the Viki copy when recording.

We know this is not ideal and we're sorry about that. This also may be a little confusing, so we'll try to clear things up if anyone has questions. We just wanted to know if this would make any difference to how you consume it or should we just continue to watch the copy we have now and keep it the same.

I hear you. But as for me, it irritates me whenever they put the words like "sunbae", "Ajussi" as they're said as if the international viewers are supposed to know what those mean. That just falls into the category of so-called "savants", "marks" or "niche" - only those that know matter, and if you don't, you're labeled as lazy for not even trying to google what they mean. This is coming from a Korean native speaker, so don't get me wrong. I do believe translating those terms in correlation to the languages they are translated into is necessary. Of course, not everything can be perfect.

My beef with Netflix is that they seem to remove too much culture. For instance, they’ll consistently translate a person’s name instead of using their title or honorific that you can hear the characters speaking. Or translating the honorific, such as “senior” for “Sunbae”, etc. like we’re too stupid to figure it out

Pros and cons, obviously. Viki might have a marginally & slightly more correct subs but they're way too verbose and so rudimentary (as if done by some Korean beginners with the help of google). Other copies i.e. Dramafever may have some incorrect translations here and there but a lot more succinct and, sometimes show some impressive translation. Wish these shows were still available on Netflix which, contrary to the above comment, I think always has the best subs.

Most of us have already seen the shows more than once. This is basically for your benefit. Definitely check Viki for slightly better subs. You can keep the same version on Patreon, don't think anyone will mind. I find that the translations really depends on who's translating and not the network. Cuz sometimes translations are really good on Viki, and other shows the translations are better on Netflix. In these cases, I do agree they are slightly better on Viki. 😊

Definitely watch the Viki copy whenever you can, no matter what you have to use for your recordings. The translations are always superior to any other format. ESPECIALLY better than Netflix!!!
