If you can speak English, I need your help.

This is a translation of the Japanese text and was written to be as easy to understand as possible when translated.

Due to this change in PIXIV's terms and conditions, I am planning to shift my activities to Patreon, but since the guidelines are in English, I am not 100% sure that I understand them.

The only main thing I want to understand is the guidelines for adult-oriented content.

So I would like those who understand English to let me know in the comments section if my interpretation is correct and if there are any parts that are wrong.

Patreon's guideline for adult content is this.

『To help patrons make these decisions, we distinguish adult content (content containing mature themes) from all-audience content by applying an 18+ flag to the former. We define “mature themes” as any audio, visual, or audiovisual creations depicting explicit sexual situations, including nudity in sexual contexts (more on nudity below). We ask creators to flag themselves as 18+ if their creations may be considered inappropriate for people under 18 years of age. We realize the exact age threshold may vary depending on where you are, but most places require a certain level of maturity to view these creations and engage in these activities. Below is a brief, non-exhaustive breakdown for guidance.

Examples of content we view as containing mature themes:

・Works depicting real people in the nude in sexual contexts

・Animations or illustrations depicting nudity in sexual contexts, and animations or illustrations featuring sexual interactions

・Audio content that features simulated sexual interactions

Examples of content we won’t view as mature:

Works featuring nudity that is not designed to be sexually gratifying, such as photos of sculptures or paintings

Works featuring nudity or sexual situations that are designed for educational purposes

A standup comedy set featuring profanity or “adult” language

We ask that all creators keep the public spaces on their Patreon pages (meaning profile pictures, membership tier descriptions, page banners, etc.) appropriate for all audiences. Content depicting mature themes must be reserved for patron-only posts.

Nudity:

As mentioned above, you can post nude creations on Patreon of both real and fictional subjects. Just be sure to mark posts with mature themes as “Patron Only” and ensure your page is flagged as 18+ if your content will feature such themes.

As a reminder, you should never post or share nude creations of any individual under the age of 18, including yourself. As a strong commitment to child safety, we will work with law enforcement whenever we come across child exploitation material. You can read more about our pornography policy in the next section.

Lastly, we understand that you may make a mix of 18+ creations and other types of creations, and that is okay with us too. We will always review your work within its context. However, if you have concerns, please let us know and we will provide you with guidance on how to maintain a dual presence.

Pornography and sexual services:

We don’t allow pornographic material or sexual services on Patreon, which we define as “real people engaging in sexual acts such as masturbation or sexual intercourse on camera.” If you want to learn more, please make sure to also consult our Benefit Guidelines.

Offensive and graphic creations:

We understand that artists sometimes have to push boundaries to create thought-provoking art, so we don’t review offensive and graphic creations with strict black and white guidelines. We instead review creations in the context of the whole creator page.

However, we have zero tolerance when it comes to the glorification of sexual violence which includes bestiality, rape, and child exploitation (i.e., sexualized depiction of minors). This is true for illustrated, animated, or any other type of creations. Patreon reserves the right to review and remove accounts that may violate this guideline.

We also do not allow other fringe sexual fetish creations, such as incest, necrophilia, or fetish creations that are hard to distinguish from non-consensual sex.

We understand that some topics on this list such as incest or rape are a little bit more complicated because these situations are, unfortunately, part of real life. As a result, when reviewing these types of creations, the Trust and Safety team will take into consideration context including personal, historical or educational narrative. For example, survivor stories or fiction such as Lolita are allowed on Patreon.』

My interpretation

Adult distribution of selfies like pornographic sites of real people is prohibited.

Animations and illustrations of fictional characters are allowed.

∙ Sexual depictions using children, rape, incest, bestiality, and corpses are prohibited.

And the most important question I would like to ask is, for those of you who live overseas, do you feel that the depiction of "children" in 2D on the Internet in your country is socially recognized as "child" if the anime character is under the age of 18 or a high school student?

Because in Japan, the general perception of "child" in the two-dimensional world is clearly that only Loli and Shota under the age of 12 are considered "children.

Do you think that characters in sailor suits or blazers are also considered "children"?

*If you don't mind, when you reply, I would appreciate it if you could make the text more formal in the site's guidelines and easier for machines to translate.

Please reply in the comments section.

*Additional questions

If there is any creator-supported site like FANBOX that can provide famous foreign adult content that is not from Japan, anything If you have any information, please provide it.

Ideally, we would like a site where we can post novels, videos, and images, but any information, no matter how small, would be great.

Comments

In fact, FANBOX's terms and conditions prohibit the distribution of any materials that are not in accordance with the terms and conditions. Therefore, if you use a patreon or uploader site within FANBOX, it will be judged that you are handling uncensored materials within FANBOX as well. (Until now, PIXIV has only prohibited the use of mosaic without mosaic.) However, the December 15 update will clearly prohibit rape, child pornography, incest, etc., even if they are linked... However, there are some questionable cases, for example, if a link from a fanbox to a discord to a product link is changed to a different link, can the guideline still be considered a fanbox.... I have asked the management, but they generally do not give me a clear answer, so I would be glad if someone has implemented this strategy in a test (;^ω^)

I'm not certain, but you might be able to use other websites to host your work, such as DropBox or Mega.Nz. Then you could distribute the works through them while updating people through Fanbox. The files would likely need to be password protected, and you would have to distribute the password through part of the Fanbox paywall.

Thank you, IcySaltEx. And thank you for your kind information and your opinion on banning measures. I feel that Patreon is clearly discriminated by the number of supporters, depending on the creators of adult content, who will or will not be removed. Frankly, I would love to have a supportive site where I can do adult content outside of Patreon, but I don't understand English... If there is a site where creators of adult-oriented content can continue their activities, I would love to hear about it.

Your interpretation seems correct. Characters that are under the age 18 or are high school students are generally ignored even though some people will say they're depictions of a "child". A character's outfit doesn't designate them as being a certain age, for example a middle aged woman can be wearing a schoolgirl outfit and nobody would say they're a child. I think you should attempt to use Patreon, but be aware that you may get banned for a stupid reason. I'm sure there are ways to avoid that, like writing characters as being "1X years old" while saying "All characters portrayed in my stories are aged 18 years or older". I would also look into having other places to share your work that would work for you, though I don't know what the best option would be at the moment.
