MF Doom In Memoriam (January 9, 1971 - October 31, 2020)

Today I was about to make another Digital Cratediggin' batch but had to change the course due to unfortunate news of legendary MF Doom passing away. News were reported in December 31, exactly 2 months after Doom left this world. This was as mysterious as his entire persona and career. No one else (at least in my opinion) could impersonate so many different alter egos and make us passionately follow their trials and tribulations, ups and downs. No one else could be so appealing and so mysterious at the same time. Remember how he was emceeing at the gigs and it turned out the guy rapping wasn't him? The guy rewrote our understandings of hip-hop with his sophisticated perception and experiences, and gained a massive cult following.
Underground hip-hop heads like myself might call him their favorite rapper or at least one of. And even for those less into the underground raps, and more into pop-rap-mumble-rap, there's a solid chance MF DOOM might be their 'favorite rappers' favorite rapper'.
So MF DOOM was HUGE despite his apparent dislike of going public and viral. He was was like those comic super villains and he liked to personify himself as one. Those guys who have their purpose, their vision which might contradict with the popular notion. He also personified those characters who love what they are doing and don't pursue the credit and popularity. But still, his contributions to the contemporary post-golden age hip-hop community has been GIGANTIC. He lived only 49 years, but did as much as many others would need to achieve in more than one full lifespan.
After DOOM's death in 2020, we can say that he has left a great legacy that will further cement his mysterious persona in the Hip-Hop culture Hall of Fame, many eternal murals and all our hearts forever.
