November 8 in music history [Hip-Hop]

Today in 1963, the legendary hip-hop DJ who was there to revolutionize the sound, style and aesthetics of hip-hop in mid and late 80's (when hip hop evolved from old school to new school golden age).  He did it as one half of the great ERIC B & RAKIM duo.

They both released 4 solid dope albums. Paid In Full is often in consideration of the best hip-hop album ever. And it really stands its ground and is relevant and highly remembered even today. Putting aside Rakim's outstanding emceeing on the album, the beat part of  Paid in Full contains gritty, heavy, and dark beats,  which marked the beginning of heavy sampling in hip hop records. Of the album's ten tracks, three are instrumentals. As a disc jockey, Eric B. had reinstated the art of live turntable mixing. His soul-filled sampling became influential in future hip hop production.

After Paid in Full Eric B and Rakim dropped 3 more (still notable) albums between 1988 and 1992, including score appearances in Juice and House Party 2.

Shortly after Don't Sweat the Technique Eric and Rakim pursued their solo careers. Eric released self-titled solo album in 1995. After receiving modest or mixed reviews he became involved in other business activities.

In 2018, the duo reunited.

As a bonus I uploaded my rip of 'Eric B & Rakim - I Ain't No Joke (1993) (VLS) [162-440 448-0]'
