A note on the car: it's a tread car~ I love treads, haha. I wish all cars had them, just cuz they look cool. IRL the cost of treads and fixing small moving elements can outweigh their ability to travel over crappy terrain (which is why the Mars Rover uses treaded wheels instead). Anyways we're not on Mars and the Emperor can hardly be expected to take a carriage up this muddy mountain road in the rain, so yeah, tread car. It's based on a 1910's era Cadillac I saw at a local museum a few weeks ago since it fit the aesthetic I'd had in my head.
This page took a long time! Any page that has multiple/ low light sources tends to screw me up, also I get very cold and sit by my window in the full sunlight, which makes it very hard to color a dark page with low contrast, haha. The last image of the three is a trick I use when coloring darker scenes... I will remove all white from the page whenever possible. So I just invert my frame and invert my text bubbles in this case. If you don't have blinding white everywhere it's a LOT easier to manage your values. In an ideal world you'd paint your values first but, alas, I didn't have time. At the very end I do a last pass to adjust the contrast and brightness in the final art with the white frame (middle image/ final) in mind, but it's a lot easier to do than working around those giant blinding blobs. It's weird how different the colors look in the second and third images! Exact same colors though...
Colors, man.
