TM Stuff- Ch2 bonus comic pdf

 PDF to download is attached!

This was the comic that was supposed to go with the Ch2 printed version of [the past]. WELL, that didn't really happen. I think there's 100 copies of that floppy out there somewhere, I have one of them... it was a terrible and super dark printing that was not approved by me before it went on sale and I feel bad that people paid for it T__T Ah, well. I just got an advance copy of the new printing and it's sooo beautiful, everything I had hoped for from that old version.

Well, that old printing also included this comic, chapter notes, and the back cover (with very old art style). The Pasori do a lot of woodcarving, so I tried dragging that into the style of this little comic too. Raises some more questions, but I guess that's the comic in general, haha.

Definitely not my backyard. I'm all the way on the other side. If it had been the Chesapeake Bay, I probably would've noticed a lot sooner. Duke, I totally thought "magic" as well. XD It's brilliant and so simple. I kinda want to grab a map and flip it around now.

Liz

Rotation of the map does trick the mind. BTW, I was also wondering once, when looking at the map, why the western places were with colder climate and eastern warmer. Somehow, occam's razor answer was "some magic" rather than "the map is rotated" >_<

Duke BG

And in your defense, it's perhaps not your backyard XD Local readers tend to spot the silhouette right away.

Der-shing Helmer

Definitely "our", Liz ._.

Duke BG

Now I'm starting to think about how Mocheril said to meet him at "the center"

Haha, true. Variable lengths of summer and winter, no less... their planet must be banging around like a pinball lol. This stuff is weird to talk about here like a revelation, since it's been part of the story for decades for me, but is probably a new perspective even for long-time readers... I guess that's the nice thing about epic stories, there's a lot of perspectives to explore~

Also I would never accuse you of laziness. But with fantasy, you can get away with a lot without really needing to ground it in reality provided it makes enough sense. Look at George R. R. Martin - he's gotten away with having a land where summer and winter hang around for years. I'm still not sure what the planet's axis is doing but he's on HBO anyway.

Shannara is a series of fantasy books by Terry Brooks. But over the course of the series, it's revealed that it takes place on Earth after an apocalyptic event. The first book The Sword of Shannara was published in 1977. Very heavily influenced by Tolkien. The later books felt more steampunk as tech advanced but I stopped reading somewhere along the way.

Liz

That's true :]

In my (our?) defense, Pinter's map doesn't seem to have a compass rose. Or one that's visible to us anyway.

Liz

ha I did not realize any of this and now I feel silly

Thomas Whitney

IDK what that means, but I'm guessing you mean it's one of those Planet of the Apes sort of things. IDK guys! Why else did you think there were a bunch of humans running around, haha? and animals like Olms and Tigers? You should know by now I'm not that lazy with the worldbuilding XD

Der-shing Helmer

Haha, you guys XD Would you be mad if i pointed out that the map has been up in Pinter's tent since around 2009/ Ch1 pg17? Anyways, a few people have figured it out on their own just by reading, but this comic can a Patron secret for now~

Der-shing Helmer

So should this be called pulling a Shannara? :B

Liz

*looks at map in PDF of book* *goes to Google Maps* GOD DAMN IT. :| To be fair Quinton, most maps are oriented with North pointing up.

Liz

I clearly did not pay enough attention to the map. I did not make the post-apocalyptic connection until seeing this mini-comic.

Quinton

The map? What? I'll have another look at it in the morning

Duke BG

Oh yeah, not to mention the titles of the books in Chapter 3. That + Google should be enough to raise a lot of questions.

Der-shing Helmer

I figure the map was spoiler enough, haha. And, what are people paying me for if not for weird background info~

Der-shing Helmer

Wow, a nuclear fallout backstory in the ethnic fairy tales. Did not expect that. Gives a whole new perspective on the world of Dia in general. Even feels spoilery.
